The Beyond meat / Impossible Burger stuff

Beyond Meat is now going to be available at KFC

Very interesting.     I tried the Beyond Burgers.   They're not cheap - about $6 for two patties at the store.    They tasted ok.   The texture is pretty close to a real burger but they have a distinct odor/taste.   its not bad just different.     I loaded up a pretzel bun with some good cheese and all the fixings and it was actually quite good.

Supposedly Dunkin Donuts has a sausage made with the plant-stuff.   And Burger King has the Impossible Burger.   haven't tried either yet.   Now KFC is giving you the chicken.

Cant be worse than Soylent Green.

Given that the consumption of red meat, especially in quantity, is known to be harmful, I like the fact that an alternative is available. You can still get your burger fix, and as you point out, with the same bun and condiments as a regular burger, it'll taste almost the same.

Furthermore, given the ridiculous number of annual deaths from cardiovascular disease, anything that might help to modify people's eating habits in a positive direction is a plus. I'm sure there will be some conservative ravings about how the dad-gum liburrul gummint is forcing us to eat hippie food blah blah blah belch gasp snort.

I'm going to try the Burger Thing version--which is only a $1 increase at my local store; I can still get the burger, fries, and a drink for $6--and I'll let you know what I think. Come to think of it, I might ask the store manager how popular it's been. It's apparently been popular nationwide, but I live in a town full of old conservative Trumpers, who don't like anything new-fangled.

I think the jury is out on it being healthier for you.     The sodium count is pretty high in both versions.   They are certainly better for the environment than commercial livestock factories and that’s the main selling point right now.

My brother tried the "Impossible Burger".  He did a side by side test with the whopper.  He tasted "impossible", and tasted "whopper"............with bun and cheese, etc.  The were both good.  When he tasted the meat and "meat like" with no other stuff included, and he said that they were surprisinging close in taste.  Impossible was good, but not as good.

I tried the Impossible Whopper today, and I concur that while the taste is distinguishible from a regular meat burger, it's pretty good. I had a mild preference for the original, but I suspect that's because it's what my taste buds "expected."

I predict that within a year or two, the Impossible won't cost any more than the regular burger. Right now, it's pricier because there's so much demand, restaurants are running out and the company that makes them can't keep up.

No thanks. I want the meat protein and fat.
