How did the American voting public end up in a situation likely having to choose among these two current opposing front runners? It's like having to choose between jumping off a building or sipping on an antifreeze cocktail. Pick your disheartening poison.

Because those potential candidates who actually want to institute meaningful change and reform have consistently been booed off the stage, either metaphorically or actually, for supposedly being radical liberal liberal radical left-wing commie tax and spend evil SOOOOCIALISTS. And any REPUBLICAN who dares to talk about anything that matters (even in service of the party's outmoded Ronny Raygun policies) is simply ignored, in favor of the jerkasses bleating WOKE WOKE WOKE WOKE WOKE 24/7.

So anyone possessing skill or competence doesn't make it through the shredder. That's the way the American public likes it.

And I note Trump is promising a dictatortatorship if he wins in 2024. So if he wins I hope people don't act suprised when he turns America into an authroitarian state.

Sigh. We can see this as a democratic choice. The German public wanted Hitler in 1933; in fact, they craved him. So if enough people want that fat old crooked asshole, let's give 'em what they want.

There's always a write-in voting process for the federal presidential election ( at least in my state). I can't / won't vote for either of these individuals. So, we can vote via write-in  based on individual principle, even though it might superficially appear as meaningless regarding the actual election outcome. In this scenario, it absolutely will not be meaningless , imho ( for myself). This could be referred to as a protest vote against the entire damned ridiculous electoral apparatus.. I might like that option *l*. Inspiring, ain't it?

Send money, too..soon.

Those candidates were likely booed off the stage because their messages / agendas / platforms were not popular or favored among the majorities of the listening audiences. Meaningful changes and reforms in DC require a lot of time and funds, too..aside from whichever perceived lunacy is being touted by the potential candidate groups you refer to.

You could spend the time standing in line to cast a meaningless vote at the local cantina in front of a nice cool margarita instead. And you'd be contributing to the local economy!

In the grand scheme of things perspective, we'll never get elected officials who work for the benefit of everyone unless and until people stop casting their votes based on what they think will benefit them (and fuck everyone else). I'm obviously existentially weird for considering the health of the body politic, not just myself, in making my voting decisions. I have on multiple occasions voted for candidates and policies that would result in direct un-benefit to myself.

Why? Not because I'm noble, but because I'm smart. I know I'll do better and be happier if everyone around be is doing better and is happier. But the vast majority of the great unwashed votes while staring fixedly at their personal rice bowl.

So barring a major sea change in the way the American public thinks and votes, we're...fucked. A nation of idiots will get the government it deserves.

Doesn't mean it is a good choice though.

That is what I do Charles.  Kevin just falls in line with whoever his party puts out there.  No matter how awful he is.

Try as you or anyone else might, the influential power of self-interest will never go away regardless of any attempts to disguise it. It's just an inherent part of human nature..part of that natural survival instinct. How many of your last ten posts in here involved your own self-interest above others? It's reasonable to hope that despite that influence that reasonable humans at least consider and allow the other side's plight, which might involve a compromise of some sort at some point. That compromise ( which includes legislative actions) is a part of any progress on most issues. No pain, no gain..or some such something. There's little compromise surrounding us currently among the so-called political body, which was originally designed to support the people. It hasn't been that way for a long time, unfortunately, and is simply absent at present. None of us are truly noble..we're more concerned about ourselves initially in any conflict..that's humanity. *l*

I think, then, that you and I both will be writing in our presidential candidate next November( under the current scenario). There's a considerable amount of time in that interim for the current situation to change dramatiically..for obvious reasons. We'll see what jumps out at us through the sheetrock..who knows?
