Biden fell down....

Oh, and Jeff, Trump +200 may be an objectively good bet, but isn't that like buying life insurance? "But what if I die young?" "Then you WIN!"

If that rancid piece of filth wins in 2024, it'll be time to sing, "Ohhhhh, Canadaaaa...."

I was sort of a semi-fan of Trump when he was a young man. People who grew up reading about him in tabloids knew the stuff he was pulling. Everything from the annual reports about how his dad was worth less and he was worth more each year (through trickeration) and his calling into radio shows bragging on his dating. Some of us even visited the opening of the Taj Mahal. But never in a gazillion years did we picture him as Prez.

The time to sing "Oh Canada" was decades ago, in my opinion. I am, after all, an aging cynic. Here's a blog piece from before the last election:

I disagree with your basic argument, "Well, this is a lousy country and it's going in the crapper anyway, we might as well elect Trump." The sad fact is that when we last did that, a LOT of people suffered and a LOT of people died. I wouldn't wish that on this country again.

I'm actually not technically making an argument. I'm just acknowledging that the US of A is largely anesthetized to rationality, and I don't think any series of events or leaders will fix it. So I may as well grab the surfboad and ride the wave, knowing I'm going to drown but trying to keep my head above water just to see where I'm drowning.

At this point, and call it cynicism or realism on my part or maybe laziness, I don't see much of anything stifling those waves. It's a religious country. Most of what goes on here is faith-based, whether it's faith in church gods or orange gods or left wing gods. Presumptions of knowing what's best everywhere. No testing (a la Ross Perot), no verifiable experts, just one-tenth-percenters and corporate calling the shots.

When the majority of advertising dollars on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox are American pharma companies, I don't think we're looking at fair and balanced reporting anywhere. Just bullshit and, to borrow from Hemingway, opiums of the people.

There are degrees of objectivity, though. And it's not that difficult to separate out the truth from the, um, embellishments. Every news source has its own ratio of truth to propaganda, which means that even Fox News can be a source of information, if you deploy the right filters.

It helps me to realize that all the lying is deliberate, even calculated, and when Fox Nooze and their ilk "report," they're not in the business of providing information; they're furnishing titillation. So when they weigh whether to pitch a story, they don't ask, "Is this true?"; rather, they ask, "Will this gin up the base?"

MSNBC, Huffpost, etc. do that, too, but it's not nearly as egregious as the MAGA propaganda mill. Nonetheless, it behooves me to view ALL sources in order to glean Da Trooty Troot, as David Miller likes to say.

It would, of course, be easier if there was a single news source that was scrupulously objective. The BBC comes close.

After his trip to the Air Force Academy he hit his head on the helicopter, forgot to salute the Marine Guard & started to salute the media before someone stopped him.

just another day of mental incompetence.
