Kevin dear, might you have been seriously bullied in your youth? I'm searching for why I am tolerant of the insults you fire at people, places and things you can't possibly have all the world's superior knowledge about.
"Clem Cornpone and Tucky Buckford. They'd rather shoot a black person than have their kids go to school with him."
A pejorative statement if ever there was one. You previously expressed bigoted opinions of the South and southern culture, so coming from you that isn't surprising. Just insulting...to me and my southern kith and kin. I read it with tolerance of your expression, because it is a silly generalization of the state of southern societal norms then and now.
.
I read history. I've traveled extensively in the South. It's my carefully considered opinion, based on observation, that black people are still treated as second-class citizens in the South and that race hatred is very, very much alive and well.
I'd also like to point out that every state in the South went for Trump, with his messages of bigotry and hate.
"The South" isn't a race or people, so being critical of it isn't bigotry--though you can call it that if you wish. I despise the South because it's still, after all these years, a cesspool of racial discrimination. The average person in the street still can't fully accept the idea that black people are human.
In support of the above contention, I'd like to point out the persistent efforts, dating back to 1865 and continuing full-blown today, to keep black people from voting or to make their votes not count. I'd also like to point out the continued election of white supremacists to public office. Those efforts are Republican-backed, true, but they date back to when the South was Democratic.
But hey, the food's good.
