Bill Clinton says he had 'no idea' of Epstein's crimes during closed-door deposition

Well, not that I approve of Clinton and his antics, but he didn't, in fact, have sex with Monica Lewinsky. And that aside, what they did have was consensual and really, a private matter. As opposed to all the boisterous Trump rape parties.

Oh, Kevin, that is rich!

Consensual is often voluntary, until it isn't.  Females like Monica get star struck, pleased with the attention from a top dog---celebrity, entertainer, politician.

That's their currency.  Then they get cast aside for another fool.   Difficult to prove.

Monica's 'best friend' betrayed her.   It never ends well.

It seems people forgive their high profile handsome lotharios.

But after 10 years there is no proof; time to give it up

Ok, so why did the Republicans require Clinton to testify?  Did they "give it up"?

I don't know if that's fair to say.

There is a power dynamic there that is pretty hard to ignore.

There's a pretty good reason why we are generally pretty against peope in a position of authority having relations with people under them.

Teachers with students, coaches with athletes, bosses with workers etc are generally regarded as being pretty inappropriate and sometimes illegal.

Now imagine a young person, a college intern at work/school and the boss/professor is the President of The United States. More or less the most powerful man in the world. The thought of saying no could be terrifying. It may not even seem like an option. Who knows what repercussions could come.

Candy, do you think you're talking to an idiot? Of COURSE I understand that power imbalances can make the term "consensual" questionable. I mean, DUHHHH.

I would point out that Lewinsky was given the perfect opportunity to roast Clinton alive during the impeachment hearings, but didn't. She could have claimed coercion, threats, etc. but she didn't. There wouldn't have been any repercussions; in fact, she would have becone a major celebrity. And she would have gotten the 45-room mansion, the private jet, and the sack of gold bullion that the Republicans had promised her if she would testify that Clinton had raped her. Not to mention the ghostwritten tell-all memoir and the blockbuster movie.

So it may seem "rich" to you, but to me, it seems very likely that it WAS genuinely consensual. And as we've learned, it's not as if Republicans ever were genuinely outraged about non-consensial sex.

Lewinsky would have testified as such during the impeachment hearings. She was bulletproof then and would in fact have profited immensely from painting Clinton as a de facto rapist. But she didn't.

As a teacher, I'm very, very aware of the issue of power imbalances leading to inappropriate sexual relations and questionable consent. I'm simply stating the legalities. The Republipig impeachment gang couldn't convince enough people that what Clinton had done was illegal --which it would had to have been to convict him. "Moral turpitude" wouldn't have been enough. And Jesus, if it was, Trump shouldn't have lasted three weeks.

Oh, and as far as "I did not have sex with that woman," that was technically true, but irrelevant. If they had gotten all nekkid every Saturday night for a year and played Hide the Salami on an air mattress floating in the Reflecting Pool, that wouldn't have been an impeachable offense.
