Bill Maher's take on the California fires

Many of your comments suggest that you are a dyed-in-the-wool conservative, which, funnily enough, makes you blind to the political leanings of anyone who doesn't lock-step agree with you. Your calling Bill Maher a dyed-in-the-wool liberal is absolutely fucking hilarious. He's anything but. He spends AT LEAST as much time bashing liberals as he does conservatives.

I just want to ask one question: liberals tolerate him, because he's frequently (though far from always) on-point and usually funny. Let's imagine a counterpart of his, a comedian who is ostensibly grounded on the conservative side but frequently pitches savage criticism at them. Would he have an audience? Would he even be allowed to exist? I think not.

That's the difference between the right and the left. Someone like Bill Maher is very popular. If such a person existed on the other side of the entertainment/political spectrum, he/she would be considered an apostate and roasted alive by the right.

True, he's a Democrat, not some whacked out far left liberal like you seem to be.  The reason why your party is dying is because it went so far left it became fascist and racist and full of clowns that love big government, wars and think socialism isn't communism.

Yeah, Iggo, as you stand there on your The Only Sane Man pedestal, basking in the glow of Reason and Truth.

Thumbs up on the Maher clip a lot.  Thanks, Nines.

Maher went full MAGA party line on this one. It's something he frequently does, though you can never see it coming. I'm sure that he thinks it broadens his viewer base.

The simple truth, which he "bleeps" over, is that no amount, degree, or type of preparedness could have made jack diddly difference in this disaster. A firefighter holding a hose versus a fifty-foot-high wall of flames roaring toward him at 100 mph? He's lucky if he can save his own ass, never mind anyone else's.

Maher also simply lies when he characterizes California as a "one-party state." That's nonsense, and in point of fact, most of the areas that were destroyed in the fires were heavily Republican. No one has bothered to point out that most of the mayors, city councilmen, fire chiefs, boards of supervisors, and sheriffs in the affected areas are Republicans. Of COURSE we can't point that out--that would destroy the idiot narrative that the fires were all because of wokeness.

I grew up in California, and the one thing I can tell you for a certainty is that this little rainfall during what was normally the rainiest time of year was unprecedented. Everything dried out--and then came the massive winds. In other words--climate change.

Pretty simple, unless you want to score viewership points by prattling politics, like Maher and his Fox Nooze hidden allies chose to.

So, the people in power / leaders responsible for protecting life and property regardless of party affiliation in this area didn't make any pre-fire preparedness mistakes, according to you? That lands you like 4 standard deviation ranks from the mean relative to the rest of the rational population. And now you're demonizing Maher by associating his comments with MAGAism simply because he called out this lack of leadership and its consequences in the area he resides in? I wonder what your comments would have been if you'd lost your home in this fire? Further, he specifically DID NOT blame the fire on wokeness, per se..said it specifically in the clip. He did blame some of the outcome on lack of common sense..which damned sure applies. He's now punished by you for wavering from the '100% -of-the-time - regardless- left- narrative', no matter how ridiculous it might be at times. Your second paragraph statement above regarding " no amount, degree, or type of preparedness could have made jack diddly difference in this diaster" is from Pluto or beyond.

We don't have the technology to prevent any and all damage from severe wildfires, particularly in conditions like those recently seen in L.A. "Leadership" doesn't mean shit when there's a wall of fire driven by 100-mph winds descending on your neighborhood.

You seem shockingly ignorant on this aspect of the issue, so let me TRY (probably futilely) to educate you. In conditions such as the recent fires, the focus of emergency responders has to shift from preserving structures to minimizing loss of life. The local emergency responders in fact did an amazing job of handling evacuations and sheltering.

Maher can prattle (and so can you) about a "lack of common sense"--whatever in sweet holy motherfuck that's supposed to mean--until he turns purple and explodes. That a nicely vague and therefore meaningless phrase. What SPECIFICALLY should the local authorities have done to prepare? Maher's silent on that--and so are you. The babble about fire hydrants and reservoirs is just MAGA-fueled social media ooze.

The CA leaders have made one preparedness mistake, though. They've allowed Republicans to live, when the responsible move was to line them all up against a wall and shoot them. Any fool knows that the severity and destruction, AS WELL AS THE OVERWHELMING NATURE, of this fire was due to climate change. Republicans have made it a core tenet of their beliefs to ignore that--so I'm not at all surprised to hear you deny it.

Do you have any specific ideas of how the L.A. emergency responders could have better prepared for this event? I'm sure that what they did do wasn't perfect. But to go all Bill Maher and say that only one birdhouse would have burned down if California hadn't been so liberal, or woke, or whatever, is just STOOOOPID.

You're being STOOOOPID.

Am I? Just because I disagree with you? Heh..that's routinely genius of you. It's funny that the only place you apply your self-annointed intellect is in here as far as number of hours. My mistake was engaging you at all..that act approached stupidity, perhaps.  Done with that mistake.

No, you're being stupid because the position you espouse is fundamentally stupid and ignores reality.
