Bought My First Hybrid

I was looking for a new Prius but it was hard to find one. The only thing dealers had on the lot were the top end models but who wants a 40k Prius with 20 inch wheels and four wheel drive? I would have had to buy sight unseen if I wanted a base model with an indefinite delivery date.

I started looking at 1-2 year old ones and they were all former rentals complete with suitcase scuffs, door dings and stained up interiors even though a lot of them had less than 35k on the clock.  I stopped at a Toyota, Honda and Nissan all in one dealership. The sales guy asked me if I had looked at a hybrid Civic. I said no. I test drove one of those and liked it so much I told them I would take it today.  I  went with a blue sport model. The Civic's interior was a lot nicer than the Prius base model and I got a good deal on my lease.  50 MPG is what I need with this runaway Trump Gas tax.  The old F-150 I have been driving (gave my daughter my newer car when she started college) gets about 11 MPG.

I bought a Honda CRV Hybrid a couple of months ago and love it. I hope you have the same experience.

My Sonata hybrid is 5 years old and gets 55mpg; about 10% less in the summer

Thank you. I loved how it drove.

Do you notice a decline in MPG in cold weather?

I live in Phoenix, so it doesn't get cold enough to affect mpg, but I suspect mpg goes down in very weather.

Toyota is going all in on hybrid.     I think the RAV4 is only being sold as a hybrid now.

I was looking at the Prius too - they look really cool on the outside but they are small on the insude.   The hybrid Corrola is cheaper and has more space - go figure.

I liked the Civic Hybrid.  You review makes me want to test drive.  I just went inside on at a dealer lot.

The sales guy said the incentives on the Prius weren't very good because the inventory is so low. He said if they wanted a 2 - 3 year extension old one to resell the only thing they could get was rentals.

And then he informed me about the very nice Civic incentives. Take a look at them.  I think you will like them.  The intresting thing about the Civic hybrid is that it has a lot of low end grunt. I think the 0-60 comes in at 6.x seconds.

Great thread.  Non-Vegas, non-political.  Thanks, Mark.  Glad you like your new car.

Every car, truck, bus, train, airplane, and dirigible in the US should be electric. We should be importing "hydro" from Canada, which generates a massive surplus. We should build huge solar arrays and gigantic wind farms in the Big Empty. We should build tidal generators.

Fossil fuels should have been croaking out their death rattle decades ago. But Big Oil has had too much power.

I'd love to be able to buy one of those $1500 Chinese EVs.
