Bought Plane Tickets For My First Return Trip To Vegas In Eight Years

I am taking a new position at work and I decided to get a vacation in when I still could. I will be in Vegas from May 16-20.

I would have preferred to go overseas but the short notice, limited time off, and the necessity of taking something before June made Vegas a good choice.  Airfare is already booked on Frontier. I am cheap so I am going with the under-seat bag only.

Anyway, I am looking to spend two nights downtown and two nights on the strip. I haven't booked those yet.

Question for those in the know. I came across a no resort fees deal at Treasure Island. However, you don't get in-room wifi. Are there wifi networks I can join in the area? I know there were several on the last trip I took near the RIO where you paid a daily fee to access them.

Cool, have fun, now advice downtown hotels 3 star 4 Queens inexpensive no resort fee, The D 3 1/2 star more expensive than 4 Q, Golden Nugget 4 star more $$, if you are under 40 Circa real $$$$ but glitzy & flashy. Strip you are on your own, love Flamingo, reasonable $$ good comps 3 1/2 stars,  Cosmopolitan 5 star , verynice. Again have fun do a TR.

I'm sure the Fashion Show mall next door  has plenty of free wifi ...and there's a Starbucks in there so they'll have it for sure.     Cant you just use your phone as a wifi hot spot?

Have fun !

Better call TI and verify that deal.  Web site says $39 + tax resort fee daily, but if you got a special offer that's great.  Any day or mid-week only?  Trust but verify!  How much to purchase wifi only?

Anyway, have fun, and do a TR, flight and all.  Best of luck with the new job!

I already switched it up.  I canceled my flight departing Indianapolis and rebooked departing St. Louis.  I changed the dates from the 15th to the 21st. The flight out of Indy was $133 and the one out of St. Louis was $87.  The return leg on the Indy flight had a two-hour layover in Denver and this one is a straight shot both ways.  The only downside is it is about half an hour further to the St. Louis airport than it is the Indy airport from my location. I have never flown out of that airport so that will be a new experience.

Since I now have a Saturday night stay I am booking the Hotel Apache (Binion's) for $37. (no resort fees).

Candy, you can find that deal on their website. I am leaning more towards Harrah's, Bally's, The Flamingo or the Link since I like the locations of those and they are all $33 a night plus resort fees. Does anybody have any recent experience with The Link.

I am excited.

Oh, restaurant recommendations welcome. In particular, I am looking for recommendations on good local Mexican and Thai restaurants that arent too far from the strip or downtown.

Flamingo by a mile.

Flamingo would be a good choice.   Easy to walk outside and have a look at the others on that side of the Strip.

Can't speak about the Link other than it puts you right by the High Roller, if interested.  That area between the Link and Harrah's, which was kinda goofy/dumpy was redone a few years ago and is very nice.  You'd be a close enough walk there while staying at Flamingo.

Mark, if you're looking for good restaurants, the Strip is a desert. Yeah, there are plenty in the casinos, but they're all hideously overpriced. You have to travel east or west, and usually well beyond walking distance.

The good news is that there are many good Thai restaurants nearby. On Spring Mountain, west of the Strip, I in particular recommend Krung Siam and Weera Thai. On West Flamingo, Thai Spice is fantastic and has great lunch specials. (Vegas has the most and best Thai food in the country IMHO).

As far as good Mexican food goes, there are two choices I like, and one, surprisingly, is in a casino. Lindo Michocoan is old-school and their food is terrific. Three locations. The other is Guadalajara, inside Boulder Station. Awesome salsa bar! There's another possibility if you just want to grab some really good street tacos: Tacos El Gordo. Three locations, including one on the Strip--that's always mobbed.

I don't know if this will still be helpful since your plans have changed, but you asked about WiFi hotspots.

Many cable modems for Xfinity cable internet customers have (often unbeknown to the customer) a WiFi access point as a second function and all Xfinity cable customers can login to that modem's WiFi. This means there is usually an Xfinity hotspot whereever you are if Xfinity serves that area.

Since the pandemic started and continuing for at least a few more months, all Xfinity hot spots are free to everyone. Just look for an "xfinitywifi" access point. When you connect, you get a sign-in page where you just click to accept the terms. No account name, email, or credit card required. I've been using this since March of '20. The uppercase "Xfinitywifi" access points don't seem to work for this. Only the lowercase "xfinitywifi" ones.

The Hotel Apache is reported to be Haunted!  Hopefully by "Old Rich White Republican Dudes"  enjoy!
