It is dumb. It will allow businesses to short change you.
I don't care either way, I'm just amazed that none of these action have passed Congress.

Outside of a casino I can probably use the fingers of one hand to count the number of cash transactions I do in a year.
Still - I reflexively pick up coins whenever I see them laying in the parking lot or whatever. And I wrap them up and deposit into the bank.
Funny story - I went to an auto salvage yard to get a replacement for my drivers seat. The car I took it out of probably had $5 in loose change on the floor and in the storage comparment. So I popped into a bunch of other nearby cars and noticed the same thing. I guess the salvage yard and the previous owners didnt care about it. I gobbled all that up and it was enough to pay for my seat and buy lunch - almost $44 when I counted it up at home. It adds up.

The effect, which I haven't seen anyone mention, will be the end of prices like $2.99, which of course were always mechanisms to make prices appear smaller.
In other countries that have phased out their smallest coinage, merchants put out a bowl of candy for people to receive as change. I for one always tell people I don't want the pennies.
