California Wants to Start Charging Drivers Per Mile

Has Oregon gone to the mileage charge concept?

In place since 2015, the OreGo program allows drivers to sign up and pay by the mile rather than pay a regular registration fee. Anyone whose vehicle gets 20 mpg or more, or is an EV or hybrid, is eligible. The fee is two cents per mile driven.

If you have a gasoline-powered car and have elected to use OreGo, you can get a rebate on the gas tax you pay. This results in a much lower net fee (no registration fee) for drivers who don't rack up very many miles. And if you do drive a lot of miles--you can just pay the registration fee as usual.

The program is voluntary.

Thanks for the reply, Kevin.
