This reminds me of when my brother was charged with opening a low cost electronics plant.  He traveled to 11 countries, and Mexico was on the top of his list.....except for the exit tax.  If/when you closed a plant in Mexico, you had to continue paying employees a large percentage of their salary for years, I believe for a decade.  He built a plant in China with 100 employees instead.  It now is pushing 200 employees.

If you think this California policy is good for the long run, your mistaken.

Anyone with a net worth of over 30 million has to pay an additional 0.4%. And that's only for people who continue to operate businesses in California after they leave.

Boo hoo.

The policy is meant to stop huge businesses from moving their "headquarters" to some podunk red state while continuing to do business in California. The scam, of course, is to try to pay taxes only in Podunk Land.
