California's zero bail policy at work

California is at the forefront of the move to abolish cash bail for criminals. Check out this Facebook note from the Glendora Police Department (Glendora is a suburban town east of Los Angeles):

On Wednesday, April 29th, at about 8:28 a.m., our officers responded to a call of a male who was attempting to break into a vehicle in the 1400 block of South Grand Ave. When we arrived, we contacted Dijon Landrum, M/24, from Monterey Park, as he was attempting to drive away in a stolen vehicle. (The vehicle had been stolen out of East Los Angeles.) In addition to driving a stolen vehicle, he had stolen property and narcotics with him. Landrum was arrested. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, he was issued a citation and released.

Approximately one hour after Landrum was released, at about 2:20 p.m., we received a call of unknown male in the area of Bennett and Pennsylvania. This male was carrying a box, and was walking through front yards of residences. It appeared that the male was placing items in this box as he was walking through the properties. When we arrived, we contacted Dijon Landrum a second time, and it appeared he had property in his possession that did not belong to him. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, he was issued a citation, and the property was recovered by our officers.

Several hours later, at 8:49 p.m., we received a call of a vehicle that had just been stolen out of a parking lot in the 1300 block of South Grand Ave. Our officers were able to track the vehicle and found it westbound on the 10 freeway in the area of La Puente. With assistance from outside agencies (LA County Sheriffs and California Highway Patrol), they located the vehicle and a pursuit began. The pursuit ultimately ended in Pasadena, and Dijon Landrum was again arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and also for evading officers. Due to the California Zero-Bail Policy, Landrum was released with his third citation of the day.

We want to thank all of the citizens that helped with this investigation, particularly those that called when they noticed something suspicious. If anyone has any additional information regarding any of these investigations, or noticed any suspicious activity on home surveillance cameras during that time frame that may be related, please contact our dispatch at 626-914-8250.

California,  still the land of fruits and nuts - run by liberal DemocRats -  a BLUE state. All one needs to know.

NY has the same policy & crime has increased since it took effect.

There have been cases of criminals being arrested within hours of release, only to be released again.

Liberals are surprised that when there is no penalty for crime that crime increases.

You don't understand what changes have been made in California, which is typical for someone who gets his "news" from Facebook.

I looked at the Fox News "reporting" of this issue and compared it to other sources. The policy is for zero bail for certain nonviolent offenses---and it's a temporary emergency measure, meant to avoid overcrowding in jails during the coronavirus pandemic. Fox News didn't mention that little detail. They presented it as if California had suddenly decided to let all criminals go free and it's a snowflake liberal socialist Biden-loving commie pinko state where there are sanctuary cities and HILLARY SENT EMAILS.

And you Trumptards lapped it up. You don't think. You watch Fox News and Facebook and get told what to think. Suckers!

I don't think it's a good idea, but I understand why it's being done. Outbreaks are happening in jails and prisons nationwide. They're trying to lessen crowding. No more, no less.

It's a humanitarian policy, something utterly beyond the understanding of conservatives.

Two auto thefts in a day isn't enough for Liberals to lock someone up.  Oh my.

Sounds like kinda dumb policy, doesn't it?   Maybe.  Maybe not.

To be clear - the motivation is not bleeding heart liberals ignorantly believing criminals wont commit crime.   The mnotivation is criminals engaging in misdeamanors is a lower price to pay than spreading the virus in prisons that are among the most rampant breeding grounds.      You're free to have an opinion regarding which of those is the lesser of two evils.

I'm sure the families who have lost a loved one to COVID-19 would say that was a bigger price than some retard shoplifting a box of candy bars at a drug store.

(Oh - and uh - spare me the lecture about letting crimnials go unpunished.    The sitting attorney general has stated the our president can not be punished for crimes committed while in office.   Thats why the president's lawyer is sitting in prison for campaign fraud while the president himslef continues to commit other crimes.   And all of our law abiding conservatives on this board have stated thats a "no biggie". )

It might not be enough to put them in an already overcrowded jail where an outbreak of a deadly disease is already occurring. Judgment call.

I'm proud to be a liberal. Liberals consider humanity and common decency when making their decisions. Conservatives are happy with imposing the death penalty, without a trial, for car theft.

As usual, PJ has to bring the President into a discussion that does not remotely concern him. Not staying on topic and deflecting the focus of the topic is the STANDARD lying liberal tactic when confronted with another case of their stupidity. If any of these crimes committed by this criminal had DIRECTLY affected PJ he would be screaming it is President Trump's fault and is worthy of impeachment because President Trump did not have the foresight to prevent this criminal from stealing from PJ - and Kevin would be right there backing up PJ.

Saying one is "proud to be a liberal" is akin to saying " I am proud to be an idiot"...
