They got caught on tape bragging about coordinating between the Trump campaign and outside PACs which is illegal. They also described their secret email system that in their words nobody knows about and automatically deletes emails two hours after there are written.
Their CEO has been suspended.

The key distinction being when people gave Obama data they were interacting with something from the official Obama campaign and knew what they were signing up for. Cambridge got their data from a fake personality test that didn’t disclose it had anything to do with politics. In fact, they told Facebook the collection of data was going to be used for academic research. If you watch the other channel 4 videos, you will also find out that Cambridge regularly bribed public officials and ran honeypots with Ukrainian Prostitutes. The Obama campaign did neither of those.
That doesn't seem to be the case according to the Guardian
"The former Obama director of integration and media analytics stated that, during the 2012 campaign, Facebook allowed the Obama team to “suck out the whole social graph”; Facebook “was surprised we were able to suck out the whole social graph, but they didn’t stop us once they realized that was what we were doing.” She added, “They came to [the] office in the days following election recruiting & were very candid that they allowed us to do things they wouldn’t have allowed someone else to do because they were on our side.”"

Oh, please that is ludicrous. It simply means that when somebody signed up on Obama’s official stuff, Obama got access to their friend’s list along with things they liked. It was less data than Cambridge got using fraud. Please provide a link to the Guardian story. I'd like to read it.

I couldn’t find the Guardian Story, but I was able to find this:
"We ingested the entire U.S. social graph,” Davidsen said in an interview with The Washington Post. “We would ask permission to basically scrape your profile, and also scrape your friends, basically anything that was available to scrape. We scraped it all."
That in a nutshell is the difference. They asked permission and it was clear the request was coming from the Obama campaign. Plus, you have the numerous criminal acts Cambridge admitted to on the videos including bribery, fraud, prostitution, blackmail and multiple election law violations including facilitating the illegal coordination between the Trump campaign and outside PACs. Overall, it is a rather poor attempt at false equivalency.
Furthmore, the Cambridge scrape in addition to scraping the user accounts that took the fake quiz scraped the entire accounts of all their friends. Obama was only able to scape the friend's list not the accutal account details from friend's accounts like Cambridge did. That is how Cambridge was able to get data on 50 million people.

Again, per you quoted comments, Facebook allowed it. Per my quoted comments the users interacting with Obama’s campaign allowed it. I don’t understand how you fail to see the distinction? Is your augment because Facebook allowed Obama’s team access to some data they normally wouldn’t when the participating Facebook users agreed, Cambridge and the Trump Campaign should be given carte blanche to access as much data from Facebook as they want without the permission of Facebook and its users while committing criminal fraud?
By their own admisson Facebook allowed it because they supported Obama, but because they didn't support President Trump, they now have moral outrage.
