Canada: an estimated 28,077 patients died last year on health care waiting lists

  • At least 15,474 patients died in Canada while waiting for surgeries or diagnostic scans. This figure does not include Quebec, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador and most of Manitoba. Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia only provided data on patients who died while waiting for surgeries – not diagnostic scans.
  • If one extrapolates the data provided across provinces and health regions that did not provide data, an estimated 28,077 patients died last year on health care waiting lists.
  • While some response data is vague, SecondStreet.org observed cases where patients died after waiting anywhere from less than a week for treatment to more than 14 years.

Socialism works...Usually by massacre, see China, Cambodia, Soviet Union.  Canada is just slower at racking up the numbers.

45,000 people die in the US each year because they dont have access to insurance and thereby hospitals.

https://pnhp.org/news/lack-of-insurance-to-blame-for-almost-45000-deaths-study/

And over 1/2 million people go bankrupt in the US each year because of medical debt.

In total - Canada spends half as much per capita on healthcare as the US with the same or better outcomes.

I can't believe anyone thinks the US healthcare system is well-designed or efficient.

Would anyone, starting from scratch design a healthcare system that links all the benefits to your place of employment where the company decides what health insurance you can have and who you can buy it from? If you work for XYZ National Corp you have an excellent affordable plan for your wage level. If you work for Joe's Custom Widget Company in the light industrial area of your local city, you get nothing or expensive plans with poor coverage. If you are self-employed and you live in a red state, forget about it!

Is this what MAGA thinks is a well-run free market product?

I would much rather be on Canadian healthcare than US healthcare. I guess that puts me in the same camp as Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz and Rand Paul.

I think one way to fix our health care system is to mandate all of congress and the senate to use the same system as we do.  They have their own platinum plans with all the priority treatment they could ask for and more.

I think it should be mandatory that they buy a Bronze plan from the marketplace in their state and they can only purchase a plan from the lowest rated insurance company in their state.

However, the reality is the insurance companies know who is a politician and they will give any high ranking politician the VIP treatment.  As such, their claims are never denied nor will they ever know what the majority of Americans go through with private insurance.

Trump just killed Medicare and Medicaid, so tens of millions of people are suddenly without care. The degree of deprivation will depend on the percentage of funding that is federal in each state. The deadbeat red states are panicking.

We're in better shape than most here in Oregon. Our federal funding share is about 30%, so we can keep everything afloat, albeit with sharply reduced services. We should only lose a few thousand people.

Thanks, all you stupid, evil motherfucking assholes who voted for the Turd!

Complete, total misrepresentation of what happened. The Medicaid payment portal was down..it's supposed to be back up' shortly'. This temp shutdown will likely cause some logistical / paperwork redundancy and some wasted time, but it's temporary. It's unfortunate but crap happens with govt. agency bureaucracies. Medicare is completely unaffected ( where did you derive the Medicare shutdown info?). Nobody went without care, either; no reported deaths despite your wall-climbing. Stop telling fairy tales.

You mean after they got caught they are suddenly bringing it back up.   There are many things down such as the school lunch program and Meals on Wheels for seniors.

They screwed up bigtime the way they rolled this out; those programs you mentioned will hopefully NOT be affected after all the pipe cleaning is done.
