Can't people find a better social network to discuss politics?

Really, on the LVA site?  This should be used for LV/Gambling stuff in my humble opinion.  If you hate someone in politics scream from the rafters all you want both sides... but you should always consider your audience when speaking publicly.  Most of us when in LVA are in Gambling and Vegas mode not politics.  Just sayin...

I would not care if the Kichen Sink was removed by the plumber and we never saw it again.

The Kitchen Sink is where one places unclean things awaiting cleansing.

Most of the other named threads address all things Vegas.

DonDiego suggests Vantzy not visit topics which are offensive.  Nonetheless poor old DonDiego apologizes to Vantzy for any offense which he may have given.

What amazes me is that people continue to beat this dead horse. I have been a member here since 2002.  When I started posting back then, the old free forum was full of political topics and that was during the heyday of the site. Over the years people splintered off the site as members created new message boards, but the biggest change resulted when the Internet as a whole shifted away from message boards and discussion of all types migrated to social media.

In the past, some people here have periodically blamed this overall trend of declining message board use on political talk.  They said if only we would ban political talk this place would revert to its heyday and become the land of endless Las Vegas discussion.  I think AC was sold on this idea once, but when a no politics rule was implemented the discussion here died despite the numerous promises made by proponents of banning politics that this place would become the land of milk and honey for Vegas discussion.

AC went with a compromise when he redid the site and moved off-topic discussion (including politics) here to the Kitchen Sink.  The only thing that surprises me is that people still periodically complain and make those same arguments about a "pure vegas" discussion despite the past failure of such a policy. And the fact that they don't even have to open the Kitchen Sink forum if politics offends them. I guess some people just don't like to see other people have fun.

I think AC keeps this board open as a courtesy to keep old members happy, and a lot of us like talking politics. When I came here the first time, I was barely into my mid-thirties and I am 50 now.  Younger folks for the most part just don't do message boards anymore they do social media. The point being, those of us here that haven't already died off from old age eventually will.

You don't see people post trip reports, restaurant reviews or attraction reviews like they used to because most of that stuff has moved to YouTube. Why spend hours typing a written report when you can effortlessly shoot high-quality video with your phone and upload it to YouTube?   If you look at YouTube there are a lot of folks that do in-depth reviews of the places that they stayed, the places they went and all of the places they ate while in Vegas.   When you can literally watch what food someone was served and get their real-time reaction to it as they taste it, how valuable is a written review typed days after the experience?

I have humbly suggested more than once the way forward for the site as a whole is to get into creating video content. Do the types of segments the Travel Channel used to do and post them directly to YouTube.  The LVA is an established Vegas brand.   It seems a shame not to carry that into the future. There is no reason the LVA couldn't do a better job than some of these clowns.

I may go for weeks without looking at LVA.  When I do, I catch up on QOD's. Check out the Gambling forum and the Kitchen sink.  The diverse opinions expressed with the passion exhibited is wonderful.  I'm uplifted by the fact different people with different opinions can have dialouge.  This is free speech and democracy in action.  Thank you Anthony for having this forum
