Considering only the city limits sometimes and the metro area others, depending on what doing so "proves," is a great example of a "Tom stat." So is what we'll call "the MAGA moron correlation."
"LOGIC":
1. Violence is more frequent in densely populated areas.
2. Cities are densely populated areas.
3. In the US and most of the world, violent crime is more prevalent in cities than elsewhere.
4. US large cities tend to vote Democrat.
5. US large cities tend to have many Chinese restaurants.
So what do rational people say? They say that 3. is caused by 1. and 2. What does MAGA say? They say that 3. is caused by 4. and 5.
What their pitiful little pea brains can't comprehend is that correlation is not causation. I know...I've tried to explain that to them.
So how would one refute the contention that Democratic cities are more violent BECAUSE they are Democratic? Easy. You could blow up the correlation. Studies have shown that there is only a very small correlation between the political leanings of a city and its violent crime rate. Or, you could point out that there is no proven casual link between the two, and any correlation is meaningless.
Things like stupid Tom, Boilerboob, Millerscum, etc. imply that causation without ever proving it. How a city's population votes has no causative effect on its crime rate, and if you challenge our MAGAs to show that causation, they'll insult you, bleat out some silly platitude, and slink away.
I just hope they don't start a campaign to burn down all the Chinese restaurants. I like Chinese food.

That way when he tries to use them to overthrow the next election in DC it wont look so unordinary.
