Clark County Corona Virus Update

Still rising --By Max Michor

July 5, 2020 - 10:59 am  ---Health officials reported 735 new COVID-19 cases and four additional deaths in Clark County on Sunday morning, bringing the county totals to 18,442 cases and 439 deaths.

The state’s infection rate is now calculated at 7.32 percent, marking the 18th consecutive daily increase in the rate, which is considered a better indicator of the trend of the outbreak in the state than new cases or deaths.

Las Vegas has always attracted risk-takers, both in the tourists who visit and those who chose to live there. So these are the people who are least likely to maintain social distancing or wear masks. And as Penn Jillette has pointed out, Las Vegas is proof that people are bad at math, so good luck explaining the mathematical definition of "exponential" to them. And Nevada has some of the lowest grades when it comes to educational achievement, so there's that.

So Vegas was destined to become a hot spot, in more ways than one.
