CNN reports that a majority of Americans support voter ID laws.

 Even CNN knows what the American people consider needed -

I don't understand the above.  But...

I've always wondered why people would object to voter identification being required? 

And if not an issue for some, why not?  What's the benefit for not requiring ID ?

We present ID for other functions.  Just curious.

It is an issue for the states as dictated by the US Constitution. It isn't an issue for the Federal Government and the President has no right under our laws to take over elections.

I do object to showing ID in a lot of cases.  Some red states are Notorious for making it difficult for younger people and minorities to vote. Legally speaking, signing that book under oath before you vote as well as when you register is all we need. The rest of it is BS election engineering to get the MAGA desired outcome of any election.

In Mn a person can register up to 8 people based on that person's word that those people are eligible. 

Through various amendments and laws the feds are involved in voting. 

Again why is voter id a problem?

One must distinguish between REGISTERING and VOTING. No one objects to ID and citizenship requirements to REGISTER. But MAGA wants people to have to present ID and proof of citizenship to VOTE. 

You see, despite all the MAGA conspiracy theories, it's difficult or impossible for someone not registered on the voter rolls to vote, and their ballot will almost certainly be invalidated if they do.

The reason why people object to having to present ID to vote is: not everyone possesses ID. But if they're registered, they have the right to vote. The classic verification process is matching signatures, not scrutinizing ID.

The benefit of that policy is that as many eligible (registered) voters as possible can vote. MAGA is strenuously against that, because they know that the higher the turnout in any election at any level, the worse Republicans do.

So it's all about opposing goals. Democrats want higher turnout. Republicans want to suppress turnout.

If you have an ID to register, then why would you not have it to vote ?  Why do people just  want the issue, but never want to solve amything.  The vast majority of Americans want voter ID.  I hope it gets done.  Also while we are at it lets get casino style servalence in these count rooms.  Let us end all these bullshit controveries that are designed to devide us.

To get a $10 LVA free play in a casino you need id; why not the same requirement to vote?

Alot of people dont have a current ID....and if you are handicapped, really old, or infirmed, or a foster kid turning 18 - getting your ID can be really challenging.

Now, if the government wants to make it easier for people in those situations to obtain their ID (make it free, apply for it remotely) then by all means lets do it. 

 Do you think 90 year old grandma should be disenfranchised because her drivers license expired and she doesnt want to stand in line at the DMV for four hours?  I dont.

Voter turnout went up because population increased. However, it went up less than it would have without the voter ID requirements.
