CNN reports that a majority of Americans support voter ID laws.

Alot of people dont have a current ID....and if you are handicapped, really old, or infirmed, or a foster kid turning 18 - getting your ID can be really challenging.

Now, if the government wants to make it easier for people in those situations to obtain their ID (make it free, apply for it remotely) then by all means lets do it.

Do you think 90 year old grandma should be disenfranchised because her drivers license expired and she doesnt want to stand in line at the DMV for four hours?  I dont.

Yet grandma is willing to get to the polls to vote but not to DMV to register?  Likely longer lines for voting than at DMV, and no chairs at the polls.  At least in our DMV there are chairs.

MAGA morons here keep telling us how easy it is to get ID. They lack the imagination and compassion to realize how some things that are easy for them might be very difficult for others.

The point was, it can be very challenging for many people to get ID. And that difficulty shouldn't disenfranchise anyone.

MAGA wants fewer people to vote, since the lower the turnout, the better they do. That's the beginning and end of this stupid issue.

There's no necessity for anyone to stand in line at the polls in Oregon, because all ballots are submitted via dropboxes or mail. Also, we make it very easy for everyone to get government ID. So because our goal is to make it as easy as possible to vote for as many people as possible, this is a non-issue for us.

We have been dealing with family members in the 90s the last several years, and found that there are all kinds of free ride programs and other assistance for Getting IDs  renewed and tax and voting assistance.  Maybe someone knows of someone that has personally had trouble, but I doubt it.  And if so hopefully you stepped up and helped out.

Yes, there's usually some kind of senior assistance. But that's not the only category of persons that may have trouble obtaining ID.

But as long as you're talking about seniors--their IDs expire and can be challenging to renew. Why tell a senior registered voter that they can't vote because their ID isn't current? Or anyone else for that matter? Signatures validate ballots. There's no rationale to change that, other than the MAGA crusade to suppress voter turnout.

You MAGAs should be honest for a change and admit that that's all that's going on here.

Senors need IDs much more than most, as they have doctors appointments and changing living conditions and on and on.  It is very imortant as they are filling out paperwork all the time. And it is not a maga issue as the polls show majority of all voters want voter ID by a wide margin.

You MAGAs need to define "voter ID." ID to REGISTER or ID to VOTE? Huge, huge difference.

I'd like to point out that this is a nonexistent issue in states where drop-off or mail-in ballots are accepted. Those states are just fine with signature validation of ballots. And there are very, very, very few instances of fraud. (I ask again, MAGA: who would risk it?)

So again, the only "reason" to require registered voters to present ID is the MAGA crusade to suppress voter turnout.

It would bring our country together by getting rid of an issue that a vast majority want.  I am tired of endless arguements, and senseless hate driven by political parties.

AGAIN...it's a MAGA lie that "the vast majority of people want" a requirement to present ID to VOTE. To VOTE. To VOTE. Not to REGISTER. Everyone is fine with requiring proof of citizenship and ID to REGISTER.

At that point, the voter's signature becomes his ID.

And in every jurisdiction where drop-off and mail-in balloting is extant, there isn't anyone checking the ID of people as they submit their ballots. I doubt very, very much if the citizenry is up in arms about that.

And as far as that fascist MAGA policy "bringing the country together"? I call bullshit on that, too. Here in Oregon, we'd have to scrap our entire system. And so would anyplace else that allows drop-off or mail-in ballots.
