Coal power plant closures surge despite Trump's efforts to keep them going
Plummeting renewal costs as well as dirt cheap natural gas are putting coal plants out of business. I sure hope the president and politicians of Apalachia have a plan "B". Society is rapidly evolving past the pre-historic practice of digging up carbon rocks and burning them for fuel.
Did anybody tell china whose production is 5x the US and has doubled in the last few years.
Somebody must have - because China has invested over 140 billion last year in renewables and has a plan to have its entire grid be 30% renewable in the next ten years. (By contrast, the US has no such national goal - just a handful of states that have made that pledge.)
Its an interesting fact for those who say the US should not engage climate threats because nobody in Asia is.

So China is buying coal in massive amounts and will continue to buy coal for years.....and the US is providing them with coal at a profit. Wow, that is so morally corrupt!
You can judge morality according to your own standards - but coals future is heading down the same path as Blockbuster video. And all the pro-coal politicians in Washington cant do anything about it despite their promises.
Like I said, I hope for the sake of Appachia's population there is a plan "B". It took cities like Pittsburgh decades to enact their plan "B".

Poor old DonDiego can hear the coal trains' whistles for miles as they wend their way through his part of Appalachia. As he has previously noted, there are way fewer trains hauling anthracite than, say, a decade ago.
The definition of a "cash cow" is a "matrue" product where you milk profits for as long as possible and invest as little as possible. Some cash cows make tons of profit and produce tons of jobs. That is truely EVIL in the eyes of some.
