As the MAGA morons and protesting fools start to collapse social distancing, in an effort to restart the pandemic, it looks like we're screwed. But there are some bright spots, though they will be eradicated when the "open up" crowds hit the streets.
1. The transmission of other infectious diseases has been slowed. There have almost certainly been fewer flu cases, due to social distancing.
2. Air pollution is WAY down. Every year, tens of thousands of people die of respiratory conditions caused or exacerbated by polluted air. That number will be lower this year.
3. Animal life will benefit from the temporary absence of man. Fishing stocks will be able to recover.
4. Membership in social service and charity organizations is way up. So is volunteerism.
5. For every trip you weren't able to take to Vegas, you're about $1500 richer! (based on the average loss incurred + average travel and hotel expense)
6. There will almost certainly be much wider and broader support for universal health care (and yes, some people view health care as a bad thing).
7. We might---just might---all practice better personal hygiene from now on. Well, maybe not the MAGA sign-wavers. But probably everyone else.
