Congratulations To Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez For Her Upset Victory

We’ll just have Mexico pay for it....or we’ll cut taxes for billionaires.

Can't answer simple questions. That's what most of my post was. It wasn't a lecture on fiscal responsibility. You can answer the questions, or you can not answer them.

Things only add to the debt if they are not paid for.

If the country spends 32 trillion today on healthcare ....and 32 trillion on the other model its just a matter of rerouting the payments.    The idea that  this is some additional money on top of whats already being spent isn't very honest, is it?

The amount requested for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which includes Medicare and Medicaid, in the 2018 federal budget is $68.4 BILLION (an increase of $17 Billion over 2017), out of a budget totaling little over $4 Trillion. Even if the $32.6 Trillion Medicare For All over 10 years estimate is correct - it assumes doctors and hospitals will accept the average 40% less in payments for services Medicare will pay - the huge spike in HHS spending would bankrupt the nation. We don't have the money, and don't have a way to raise it. The government doesn't spend $32 Trillion today (or $3.2 Trillion per year) on healthcare. Not anywhere close to it. That would be roughly 80% of the entire budget.

How is the single payer Veterans Admin working out?

My brother in law who is a disabled vet loves the VA. He will drive an hour one way to go to the VA rather than the GP in the town he lives in.

Well that settles it. The VA is a wonderful, flawless example of government provided health care. Because one person you know likes it.

Tom was giving anecdotal evidence that it was bad.  Am I not allowed to give anecdotal evidence that some people like the VA?

Google problems at the VA & a few million anecdotal pieces come up.

Once again mark shows only his butt, because his head is buried in the sand

The last major problem (besides Trump appointing a drunk to run it) at the VA was Jared Kushner's digital health care program.  It seems odd to me that anytime some Republican tries to close the VA or privatize it so many veterans come out of the woodwork to complain that they have to back off.  Anyway, the VA is not the only government-run healthcare program there is Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP and so on.

The name of the proposal is Medicare for all not VA for all.  Medicare consistently gets higher marks from patients than private insurance does. We currently have the most expensive healthcare system in the world and our medical outcomes are often among the worst for first world countries. Ignoring that basic statistical reality is showing your butt because your head is buried in the sand.
