Congress should lead by example when government grinds to a halt

There is a point that health insurance can lapse unless the employer pays the entire monthly premium, at least for peon level staff.  Legislators, I don't know.  I was under the Executive branch, same as the POTUS.  Sens and Reps are probably under Legislative, maybe different.  I just recall HR contacting me about an employee in a situation where loss of coverage would lapse.

Withholding pay might have other repurcussions, specifically loss of health insurance coverage.   When I was working there was a certain type of situation whereby if a number of 'days' went by where there were no earnings, no annual leave, no sick leave, a zero paycheck, then insurance premiums weren't being paid and therefore your insurance could lapse.

I may be nutso here, but there was something like that.  I don't know if the employee could lapse into COBRA which is expensive but keeps health insurance going.

And I don't know how that works for furloughed employees going weeks and months with no pay, which is the worst.

Just some thoughts.

That's a good point. I didn't think of that.

Time to end the shutdown.    TSA workers are suffering for a negotiation they have nothing to do with

voting on it IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WISHES OF THEIR CONSTITUENTS, is their job

80+% of the population is in favor of voter ID; so under kevin's logic the democrats should vote for the SAVE Act

That's fine pass it at the state level. Or if it so popular pass a constitutional amendment, so you can have it at the federal level. Most folks don't understand how limited as to what type of  ID would be acceptable under the SAVE act and how it would make their life more difficult especially married women or women that were married and have been divorced. I would imagine it would be difficult for folks that have been married 2 times or more as they would have had multiple name changes during their life.

If you are going to have a federal election the feds can establish the standards

The requirement to vote should be the same getting on a plane

Nope that's not what the constitution says. It is up to the state. The Fed can say you have to be a citizen but is up to each state to decide how to get that done and which type of ids are acceptable.

Through the voting rights act and other legislation the feds have been involved in election standards for years.

Are you familiar with that document called the Constitution? States regulate elections, including federal elections.
