Apparantly, Mark believes that discussing black people in a negative fashion makes one a racist. I don't understand why having a similar discussion about a white person doesn't make one a racist. Furthermore, I believe that we shouldn't consider a person's skin color when having political discussions.
The only evidence for the birther conspiracy was the color of the president's skin. Period. Trump and the bigots who fueled this story did not have any written documents...no eyewitnesses...and no reputable jouranlism to back up their case. They simply presumed it to be true based upon the backwoods, inbreeder presumption that black people are from Africa. And the White Nationalists loved it.
Thats the wave our current president rode into office after throwing gasoline on that fire for years.
Maybe you did not vote for Trump based upon that....many people voted for him for other reasons. but Trump discarded the dog whistles of the historical Republican Southern Strategy and spoke to the confederates directly over the loudspeaker.
There have been a few noteable Republicans that have called out Trump for his flagrant racism (like George Will) but they are a miniscule minority.
