CoronaVirus by the Numbers

You can't tell the players without a scorecard, . . .

Corona Virus Worldwide Statistics

Kevin will somehow find this offering of facts as a way to complain about Trump.

Idiots complaing about this virus need to quit the blame game - it does not help. No country or one was prepared for this virus and bitching does not help anyone. Just shut your ignorant mouths and protect yourself.

You can't tell the players when they don't take the field at the start of the game.

The numbers tested in the US aren't accurate because of a lack of testing.  In my state, only 89 people have been tested to date. The CDC number was still under 14k as of yesterday. Keep in mind most tests are conducted with two samples, so the actual number of people tested is under 10k.

People that die without having been tested have pneumonia listed as their COD.

We still haven't restricted travel anywhere in the US. If you want to get on a plane from Seattle to anywhere you can.  If you want to drive out of Seattle in your car, you can go anywhere.

This is one instance where an authoritarian society with collectivist culture outperforms democracies. China and South Korea are both containing the virus, because they've been willing to be drastic about it. In the US, we still have too many people who are a) too stupid or b) disinclined to listen to authority.

The Interblab is full of people saying that ah'm not gonna be quarantinified and thay cain't take away mah rahts to traivul. People saying if they try to test me, I'll grab mah shootin' iron and drill th' varmint who tries raht between th' eyes. There also appear to be quite a few people who still believe what Trump told them--that the virus is a harmless Democratic hoax. Your model Trumper citizen will be one who is asymptomatic and goes out and infects fifty people.

We screwed the pooch on containment some time ago. Everyone, with very, very few exceptions, will be exposed. All that we can do now is to try to spread out the cases so that hospitals won't be overwhelmed. You want a sobering figure, look up how many ICU beds there are in your city. I expect you'll find that the number is surprisingly low.

The bottom line is that most of the people who are killed will die not of the virus per se, but of lack of access to medical care. We'll also have higher mortality among people who need to go to the hospital for the usual myriad of other reasons but can't get care. I'm really hoping, for that reason, that efforts to spread things out are successful. If we have two or three million cases requiring hospitalization at once, the system will collapse.

Thank you, O Orange One!!!

It's his fault. Whether or not you Trumper stooges want to admit it. (Obviously, just the cases and deaths in the US.)
