The bottom line is that we have a for-profit-based health insurance scheme in the United States; the subsidies will have to be increased every few years as health insurance companies want a 10% increase in profits year in and year out, just like every other private sector player in the health care chain.
Wages simply can't grow fast enough to keep pace with all these players demanding profit growth year after year. For those of you who have been here a long time, you know I wasn't happy with Obamacare because it relied on this private insurance scheme rather than a single-payer government-backed system. In fact, I said over and over, that the subsidies will have to be increased as long as we have this system. A lot of the other lefties here at the time disagreed with me.
The bottom line is that if you want to fix healthcare in the US, you have to remove the leeches from the system and the best place to start is the parasitic private insurance companies that are bleeding the system dry.
MTG of all people said some really smart things about healthcare today.
Obamacare was instituted because the Republicans have always fiercely resisted single-psyer healthcare. They, together with the extremely powerful healthcare provider lobby, would have made it impossible to pass ANY healthcare legislation. Obamacare was a compromise, and not a very good solution.
When you talk about healthcare in the US, you have to realize that the Republicans are against healthcare of any kind, except for the rich. Poor people, minorities, families...they need healthcare more than rich bitches in mansions...and they tend to vote Democratic. So the Republican strategy, which by the way is detailed in Project 2025, is to deprive the lower classes of healthcare and let them die out, thus giving Republicans absolute control of America.
We know for a certainty that single-psyer government-run not-for-profit healthcare is the way to go. There are dozens of examples around the world. But we'll never have it as long as the Republicans want us to sicken and die instead.
