Kevin may wish to do more research.  The publicly funded portion of the stadium is $750 million, not $1.8 billion.  The stadium does not sit in Las Vegas, but instead well south of city limits.  The public funding is being generated by a Clark County hotel tax increase, not by local citizens.................unless they hotel near home frequently.

The exact numbers are tangential to my point. Billions of dollars are being spent on a stadium that will sit idle for over nine days out of ten. And if those dollars are partially extracted from tourists--those dollars won't wind up in the local economy. The money could have been spent on so many different things that Las Vegas (the city or the metro area) desperately needs.

I would prefer that things that need to be funded--like schools--are funded directly, rather than the powers that be using tax dollars for boondoggles that fatten up the wallets of rich people. Yeah, maybe some of it will "trickle down." Maybe that single mom can get a third job selling hot dogs at Raiders games.

But yeah, Republicans don't think in terms of using public funds to improve the lives of those who they deem to be the inferior classes. They only want to consider ways to further enrich billionaires, in the hopes of receiving a reward from them in return.

Kevin is misinformed about my desires, and about all Conservatives that I know..............which is a shitload.  It should also be noted that Conservatives  don't wish to kill babies and old people, and we don't want to trash the environment that we and our children live in.

I find it interesting that Kevin is very specific in which tax dollars are best used to fund schooling.  Does it matter if the tax comes from the left pocket or the right pocket?  I think not.

I am amazed that Kevin is found to be wrong, not once but on several points. How can this be? The know all, self anointed brainiac is found out to be a liar?  Stay tuned, more to come...

I don't believe Kevin lied, in this case.  Just grossly uninformed.

The defination of lying is not telling the truth.

No, actually, you're lying about that, Stalker. The definition of lying is INTENTIONALLY not telling the truth.

Have you ever been wrong about anything, Stalker? If so, would you say that you were lying?

adjective. The definition of lying is not telling the truth. An example of someone who is lying is someone who is dishonest about where he was and what he did.--- Does this answer your question, all knowing Kevin?

Actually, I wasn't specific about that at all. I do think that funds should be earmarked for specific purposes whenever possible. If they aren't, then the oligarchy views the public treasury as just one giant pot that can be dipped into for any reason.

There are conservatives who do actively want to see the "inferior classes" wiped out, or at least relegated to permanently lower social status, just like in the "good old days" (a common theme of conservatism). Also, there are conservatives who, while not actively seeking to trash the environment, do not care about it and will happily endorse measures that will kill a quarter million people or so if those measures enhance shareholder value.

I see ALL the time, especially in conservative editorializing, the view that the worth of a person is solely in his/her economic value. You can't produce, you should be discarded. Conversely, those who produce the most economic value should be exalted and given the reins of power. This is the guiding precept of our country today. This includes silencing and demeaning (SOCIALIST!!!) those who disagree with the Golden Rule: whoever has the gold makes the rules.

There are also conservatives who are principled and whose views of society, while wrong, are at least cohesive and are based on some kind of tangible morality. However, they also flaunt their so-called "Christian values" while supporting legislation that marginalizes the poor and less fortunate; they prattle about the "values of the founding fathers" while ignoring that "all men are created equal" stuff. I also see quite a bit of social Darwinism in modern conservatism: using money to improve the lot of the rich rewards those who are most able, while using it to help the weak is simply throwing it away.

This last concept is, I feel, the purest embodiment of evil.

Use a real dictionary, jerkwad.

Merriam-Webster:

1 : to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive She was lying when she said she didn't break the vase. He lied about his past experience. 2 : to create a false or misleading impression

Emphasis mine. Saying something that isn't true can simply be a mistake. But then, I wouldn't have trouble explaining this concept to a five-year-old, and you're at least as smart as a seven-year-old, albeit one failing several of his classes.

Now shut your pie-hole and let the grownups talk.
