Damage control

Charles, I greet with unbounded joy your decision to leave and go bother someone else. I wish you much happiness in your alternative reality.

You go get 'em tiger!  I'm sure when I do return, you'll be here morning noon and night with your panties all wadded up over Donald Trump...always trying to get the last word in.  Until then...good health.

I couldn't agree more. And here I was beginning to think you didn't like me.

The reaction of our conservitards to your list was exactly as I predicted. They won't give Biden credit for anything, because they're still in the thrall of Dear Orange Leader and to admit that he's done good things would be blasphemy. Talking to them is like trying to talk a Jim Jones disciple out of drinking the Kool-aid.

I just want to blow up one of Tommie-poo's more disgusting stances. He tries to label reuniting immigrant children with their families as something bad--"reuniting illegals." 1) These are not illegal immigrants. These are families that have presented themselves at the border and asked for asylum--legally. 2) Why is reuniting children with their families a bad thing, regardless of the circumstances? 3) The Trump policy of destroying families that were asking for asylum was cruel, inhumane, stupid, pointless, and costly. Tommie-poo agrees with it, which says a lot about his character.

Trump-love turns people into assholes.

I will uncharacteristically jump in to defend Kevin's point here (though not to attack any other poster).

Kevin is a teacher.  Maybe he does or does not see children arrive at school without having had breakfast, without proper clothing (and there follows bullying), failing to focus, fighting, bullying, etc. but I will guess he sees some of this.  I'm not a teacher but I listened to a zoom meeting about this.  One phrase the teacher of this less used was "the static never stops."  This referred to kids living in disfunctional homes, including one parent, rotating 'parents', violence by parents and other 'strangers' this night or that night, sexual abuse by guys the mom brings in, scarce nutrition overall, i.e. hungry, a myriad of miseries that I'll guess this group (us) never experienced in our own growing up.  So the kid barely gets any of the teaching provided, maybe doesn't even finish grade school, grows up to inflict violence on society as a result of that being all he knows.

I've been told by teacher friends that they see some of this even in upscale communities.

So when the subject is separating kids from their parents, most of us have no idea of the rest of the story.

Sometimes what we see during our careers influences our thinking in a way that others might not be subjected to.  JMHO.

This is well said - but also not accurately describing policy.   And there has been a great deal of propoganda to misinform people about what policy is/was   to rationalize what the Trump Administration did with migrant families.    So lets spell it out....

Historically when children and adults showed up at the border some kind of security check would be done with the adults through interpol and other crime databases.    If the adult was a known human trafficker, drug dealer, or violent criminal then the accompanied child would be removed from the adult .   That was true under Trump...and that was true before Tump....and that is true now.

What Trump did that went beyond this rational policy was label every adult with a child at the border as a criminal.   They were such by definition according to his immigration chief, Stephen Miller.    So you had an unprecedented number of kids stripped away from their rightful mothers without any reason beyond her committing the heinous crime of applying for assylum at our border.    And to make it worse the Trump administration kept no records or paper trail of where the seperated child went so that they could be reunited at a future date.   And to make it worse - this was not an honest mistake......this policy was purposefully passed as a punishment and detterent to immigrants hoping to improve the qaulity of life for their families by coming to the US.     The architects of the policy openly admit to that fact.  ANd Trump's base cheer it.

So lets be clear....infants weren't stripped from their mothers because the mother was disfunctional.  They were stripped from their mother because our government was abhorrently and purposefully cruel.     In my opinion, it the archtiects should be imprisoned.   And You would certainly feel that way if it was your child.

In any case, children are slowly being reunited with their parents years later...which wont prevent the irrepairable harm its already caused....and some kids have not been found and may never be found because of their processing.

Government and other leaders should be promoting the traditional family.  They should be promoting only having children while married.  They should be promoting only having children when able to afford to properly raise these children.

Children need two full time and committed parents.

I agree with Boilerman....which is why I support a woman's right to choose to cancel a pregnancy in the abense of those conditions.    Its disappointing many people dont.

PJ, I have conflicting views on your position.

Funny, I read somewhere about this obscure little Constitutional concept, which to boil it down to its essence, says that people have the right to do anything that the law doesn't expressly forbid them to do. So until we reach the Handmaid's Tale stage (a distinctly nonzero possibility), people are and will be able to have children, start families (both so-called traditional and nontraditional), without government permission, approval, licensing, etc.

This fundamental right could be endangered if the evangelicals get control of things, also a nonzero possibility. But until then, I want the government to stay the fuck out of people's lives.

It's so amusing, or maybe horrifying, that conservatives continually bleat about liberals promoting government interference in their lives--why can't we refuse to hire black people?, and such--but are perfectly happy with the government allying itself with the mythological guy with a long white beard sitting on a cloud, and his stern edicts.

BTW, I don't believe in the guy on the cloud because if he exists, he's an asshole of the first order, and any moral statutes or strictures coming from him mean nothing. He doesn't play by his own rules.

God loves you Kevin, in spite of your disobedience.
