Decision 2020

"Yes, we would look like the rest of the first world rather than a barbaric 3rd world country where it is suvival of the fitest. "

Perhaps you should get out of mommy's basement & visit a 3rd world country hospital

The US has one of the highest cancer survival rates in the world; a good measure of hospital care.

Oh, sorry, let me clarify in case there was some confusion.    I listed my issues that I would be basing my vote on.

Tom is free to make his own list....like golf and vacation days.    Cool that we can have our own criteria, isn't it?

I will be looking for a candidate who will address these top issues

- comprehensive immigration reform

- higher taxes on the wealthiest to fix the deficit

- enacting the social security solvency bill just passed by the house

- ending anti-democratic practices in elections:  Money, gerrymandering, disenfranchisement, 8 hour voting lines

DonDiego is surprisingly in agreement with PJStroh.

__ DonDiego supports an intelligent legal immigration plan.  DonDiego trusts comprehensive immigration reform includes improving border security so as to better prevent illegal entry into the United States.  And, as there are indeed bad actors afoot in the world, some limitations on who enters the Country are legitimate.

__ DonDiego is likewise concerned with the ever-growing deficit; he would propose reductions in Government spending for a closer alignment with expected tax revenues.

__ DonDiego opines the likelihood of a scheme like Social Security falling into deficit and eventual bankruptcy was pretty much inevitable from the start.  Unfortunately Congress likes to give people stuff and people like to get stuff.  And people like their benefits to increase without their contributions rising.  Fixing it will be painful.

__ DonDiego supports fair and honest elections.  DonDiego finds the money spent on electioneering grossly excessive; nonetheless, given the importance of not limiting free speech, limiting expenditures is, umm, difficult.  Setting electorial district boundaries to benefit specific political interests should be halted; a fair "judge" should oversee if one can be found.  Aside from some obvious legitimate constraints, (e.g. citizenship, age, local-residence) citizens should be permitted to vote without significant inconvenience.

__ DonDiego prefers that States and localities provide an efficient voting experience for all legitimate voters.

8 hour voting lines are a thing of the past, unless one's state hasn't implemented early voting.

I tell people and kids that ask me don't go into debt for a four year degree. Join a trade union to learn a trade, do a two year degree where you will learn some kind of hands on skill or go to one of those reputable codeing bootcamps for 6 months. There are so many things besides a 4 year degree that will help an ambitious young person make a good living and not leave them with a ton of debt.

OMG, I agree with Mark!  LOL.  But this is so right.

I might add that the military can be a great option.  Get your higher ed degree compliments of Uncle Sam.  I tell this to graduating nurses, four years = wonderful benefits for life.

Democrats unveil plan to sustain Social Security for the next century

That should take care of my lifetime.

Well, well, . . . welly, . . . well, well.

DonDiego congratulates PJStroh for being covered by Social Security until his demise.

And, as PJStroh's reference indicates the Democrats intend to "fix" Social Security by making it bigger and better:

__ an increase in the minimum benefit

__ an across-the-board increase in benefits equivalent to 2%

__ a raise in the cost-of-living adjustment

__ a raise of the payroll tax from 12.4% to 14.8%

__ application of the payroll taxes on incomes over $400,000-per-year

A former Deputy Commisioner of Social Security summarizes: "The Bill would give a lot of money to middle- and upper-income retirees who are already doing well.  And it would significantly increase payroll taxes on workers."

So the solution was "increase taxes" ! ! !   Who coulda guessed it ?

Correction...New York did not raise taxes on the rich.   Trump raised taxes on people who live in blue states by limiting their local and state deductions on Federal taxes.

And we've seen the results of the Republican drunken tax cut and spend binge.    Its not very flattering to our national debt - or to hypocrites in the "Freedom Caucus" who pretend like they give a crap about it.
