Deep State surveillance

McConnell trying to allow FBI to collect your web history without a warrant

So while the Republicans are currently crying about the FBI's massive abuse of power for spying on Michael Flynn  (they weren't spying on Flynn - they were spying on the Russians Flynn was talking too....but I digress)

Mitch McConnell is trying to give the FBI full blown access to your web browsing history without a warrant.

This is the kinda thing that doesn't really get front page coverage in the midst of a pandemic.  Maybe thats part of the motivation for pushing for it now.

In any event - in sure undermines their faux outrage at the Deep State monitoring of Trump collusion, doesn't it?

Republicans are TERRIFIC at manufactured, faux, hypocritical outrage. Hillary sent emails---explode like a popped zit! Trump steals $391 million to bribe a country into attacking a political opponent---nooooo problem!

A 23-year-old sex assault allegation against Biden---run around squawking like chickens! TWENTY such accusations against Trump---nothing to see here!

You can't expect any integrity, honesty, or common decency from Republicans---or Trumpers.

Republicans say, Deep State for thee but not for me.

Of course, after Republicans steal the next election, they want to monitor the Internet for people saying things critical of Donal Trump.

I don't like the sounds of this but there must be more to it than meets the eye.  37 senators voted to allow this including 10 Democrats.  Besides, if it remains illegal to do so, only the FBI under control of the Dems would be illegally doing such things which puts the Republicans at a serious disadvantage.

Anything that puts Republicans at a serious disadvantage would be good for the country.

From somewhere in the twitterverse:

59-37: Senate narrowly defeats Wyden-Daines bipartisan ammendment to FISA reauthorization bill to prevent law enforcement from collecting internet web browsing and search history information without a warrant. 60 votes were needed.

Senate vote tally on Wyden-Daines amdt defeated 59-37: 59 Yes: 24 Republicans, 34 Democrats & King-I 37 No: 27 Republicans & 10 Democrats 4 Not Voting: Alexander-R, Murray-D, Sanders-I & Sasse-R

Poor old DonDiego is an old man, . . . who has very-little-to-nothing to hide on his internet. Not only would his history reveal no illegal activities, it wouldn't even indicate any scandalous behaviors.

Nonetheless, poor old DonDiego, likewise, "doesn't like the sounds of this".

Republicans wanted the FBI to be able to do warrantless searches by a margin of 27-24. Democrats were against it by a margin of 34-10. In other words, Republicans were slightly opposed, and Democrats strongly in favor, of an amendment that would prohibit such searches.

Not surprising at all. This was Moscow Mitch's idea. Republicans bleat about the "deep state" but show their true colors when they vote.

It's interesting, though, that many Republicans voted no. Are they growing a pair? Do some of them still have principles?

Naah! Mitch's checks must have bounced.

Kevin, Democrats under Obama where already doing this.

Horseshit. I'm sure you're misinterpreting it; you never get anything right.

Also, when Trump or Mitch try to pull a scam, what Obama, George Washington, or Charlemagne may or may not have done doesn't mean a thing.

No - they were spying on Russians.   You can imagine their surprise when the Republican nominee's team ended up on the other line offering secret deals.   Most patriotic types would find that to be more than a  little concerning
