The need for what you so stupidly call "free shit" is increasing as the population ages. Therefore, yes, social spending will have to increase simply to maintain previous levels of benefits.

Military spending has shrunk because we're currently not actively engaged in any major wars. That's a good thing. Unless, I guess, you're a gun fetishist.

Have you ever driven on a street or highway? That's free shit--you didn't have to pay a toll. Have you ever used a library? That's free shit--they don't charge a fee. Did you attend grammar school or high school? Your parents didn't have to pay for it--that's free shit. Seniors, when they retire, are paid out in SSI benefits what they paid in after about one year. The rest is free shit. I assume you're going to refuse those additional benefits.

Our post office is heavily subsized. The postage and fees you pay account for less than half of post office revenue. Taxes pay for the rest. Therefore, whenever you mail a letter, you're getting free shit.

The FDA, the EPA, and a host of other government agencies keep you from getting sick or poisoned. You aren't charged for those services. Therefore, you're getting free shit.

You have police and firemen in your town, I assume. When you need their services, they don't present you with a bill. That's free shit! With your principled stance, when your house catches fire, you should just let it burn, because if you call the fire department, you're getting free shit.

And yes, of course all that "free shit" isn't free at all--it's paid for by taxes. And the taxation system isn't set up so only those who directly benefit from a tax are those who pay it. That would be unworkable.

In your narrow, egocentric view, if you don't see yourself as getting direct benefits from a tax, you don't want to pay it. But you do, in fact, get direct benefits. You just are too obtuse to realize what they are. This includes such things as direct benefits from the food stamp program that you realize even if you are never enrolled in it.

If we allowed people to whine and not pay taxes because those taxes pay for someone else's "free shit," our government would collapse. So that's not happening. What I want to impress on you is that YOU, O fiscal conservative, get "free shit" every. single. day.

Boiler, I gave you the list of biggest spending items since 2000 passed almost exclusively by the leadership you voted for.    Save one.    

And as for the budget result of tax cuts?    Dont take my word for it.   Take data's word for it.

Kevin, I consider shit to be stuff like food stamps, welfare, Obamaphones and such to be free.  You know, expenses for folks who didn't prepare for life and now expect.  That stuff, over the past 60 years is absolutely out of control, and unsustainable.

It's a cruel, stupid, and unfair viewpoint to consider people who receive social services as "folks who didn't prepare for life." You obviously have never been unlucky, had something unforeseen happen, been the victim of a crime or natural disaster, lost your job, gotten sick or been injured, or developed a disabling medical condition.

Good for you, but it's too bad that your good fortune had made you so unsympathetic to those who haven't been as lucky as you. It's so easy to say, "I'm a hardworking noble 'Murrican who has never needed that free shit that those lazy no-good (insert name of ethnic group) get." Except, as I pointed out, you're as much of a welfare recipient as they are. Maybe you don't get a check in the mail, but you get "free shit" every day nonetheless.

I'd also like to point out that children who get this "free shit" you deplore aren't responsible for the situations their families are in. What would you do, let them starve? Take them away from their families?

I for one am happy to pay taxes so that other people don't starve to death, freeze to death, or die for lack of medical care. That makes me a no-good snowflake LIBURRAL, I guess, and I'm proud of it.

By the way, the free landline subsidy started under a Reagan, and moved to cell phones under Bush.  Your use of "Obamaphones" shows your complete ignorance and prejudice.

I thought that's what the jerkwad was referring to, but the name he gave the program is so stupidly inaccurate, I couldn't believe he would misplace its origin by some thirty-odd years.
