Democrats cave, splinter from Schumer as Senate advances plan to reopen government

As I predicted -Democrats created the healthcare "crisis". Obanacare was never going to be affordable so they hid the cost by providing subsidies. Now the subsidies are expiring, Dems are terrified the true cost of their lie will be exposed. -- The Senate took a massive step forward on its way to reopening the government on Sunday, with a group of Senate Democrats caving and joining Republicans in their bid to pass a revamped plan to end the shutdown. Signs that the shutdown, which entered its 40th day, could be ending became more and more clear as the day went on, particularly with the unveiling of a bipartisan package of spending bills that lawmakers hope to attach to a modified bill to reopen the government. Still, there is a long way to go before the government officially reopens. Sunday’s vote was the first in a series needed in the Senate to modify the original House-passed continuing resolution and combine it with the three-bill spending package and updated CR, which, if passed, would reopen the government until Jan. 30, 2026 - https://www.foxnews.com/politics/senate-democrats-cave-open-path-reopening-government

I applaud the move.   Good for them.   They should have done it 6 weeks ago.

Republicans now get to explain why insurance premiums are skyrocketing on their watch and under their Big Beautiful Bomb.     Thats for every MAGA small business owner, contractor, early retiree, and worker without employer paid insurance.    Have fun with that.

Will you stop with your lies - blaming the Republicans for the premiums increases is solely the DemocRATs responsibility for their passing of Obamacare and it's ever esculating costs - a bill that NO Republicans voted for and the one the DemocRATs passed. Now YOU have fun with that...

Their are millions on ACA policies through their employers as they get ACA reimbursements from their employers.

Mine is seamless. They send the company navigator around this time of year. The company gives each employee $500 a month towards a marketplace policy. Each employee also gets whatever Federal subsidy they are entitled to based upon their income. The payments to the marketplace are paid by my employer.

If an employee's Federal subsidy plus the employer's $500 subsidy doesn't cover the entire policy, the rest is paid by the employee through payroll deductions. All the businesses that cover their employees in this way are in for a world

of hurt.

And the sky continues to fall....

The only way to fix this is to make these soul sucking politicians on each side of the aisle use the ACA.  And I mean they cannot get care anywhere else, must manually sign up for it each year like the rest of us plebes and go to the same doctors and hospitals in the same lines with zero priority.  No having their minions do their scheduling or benefits enrollments, they have to get on the phone / website etc and do it themselves.  They aren't any better than we are, if anything worse than the least of us.

I'd bet it would improve massively in short order.

All members of the House, Senate and their staff are required to get their health care insurance through the ACA.

Hmm, ok, didn't know that, thanks.  I did more research:

Senators can choose from over 100 different

Gold-level health plans offered through the DC Health Link's Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) market. The specific carriers available include CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, Kaiser Permanente, and UnitedHealthcare.

70-75% of their premiums are paid for by the government.

The KEY part of what you found out is that tax paying Americans are paying 75% of the premiums that congress members have for insurance plans that most Americans can not afford to have. Why is this happening?

Because Republicans insisted that it should be part of the ACA, back in 2013 when it passed in Congress. They threatened to withhold their votes if that and other concessions weren't in the bill.
