Govt programs always cost much more than anticipated. Remember when obamacare was going to reduce the deficit? Instead costs have doubled.
The fraud rate for medicare/medicaid is much higher than with private insurance.
Countries that have single payer systems also have private insurance to cover what the single payer doesn't cover.
Medicare doesn't cover everything and it has premiums and deductables. You also have to buy private coverage such as Advantage which has a limited number of providers, premiums, copays and deductables. You can also get the more expensive Supplement Plan which pretty much covers what medicare doesn't cover.
Anyone who thinks the US Healthcare system is a good model is an idiot. Are you an idiot, or do you have a better idea?

Easy? I refute and school him every time, and effortlessly at that. I enjoy showing what a fool he is, with his Tom-logic, Tom-stats, and Tom-lies.
Stupid Tom doesn't realize that we have mediocre life expectancy (23rd worldwide, and dropping) at double the cost. And the primary reason for that is it's still in the hands of private enterprise.
Single payer government healthcare is the only answer. It works for all other modern industrialized nations. No logical reason why it wouldn't work for us.

I like the French health care system, although I'm not an expert in the area. Everyone gets basic reimbursement healthcare coverage, and you can buy supplementary coverage on the private insurance market. People who work for big companies, small companies, or are self-employed have coverage.
Why does anyone think linking your health coverage to who employs you is a good approach?
