Who ever said that it had anything to do with "stopping tyranny"? Its language refers to the "security of the State," which the dumdum who wrote your article grossly misinterpreted to mean the individual states. The term as used, of course, was synonymois with "country"--as in "a free and independent State." When I read that statement by your doof, I started laughing so hard, I almost didn't finish the article.
The Second Amendment was drafted because the Fathers realized the outsized role that local militias played in the Revolutionary War, and they wanted to make sure that the people--COLLECTIVELY--could arm themselves and repel an invasion if necessary.
Many aspects of our government are artifacts of slavery, and yes, Southern states might have been very enthusiastic about preserving their right to "shoot them niggers if we's got to," but the primary impetus was that the US feared a second war with Britain, which did indeed happen (or Spain, or France, or...). The disproof of your dumdum's contention is that the northern (free) states were just as enthusiastic about the Second Amendment as the Southern states. If it had all been about the right of the slave states to "have us a coon hunt," their support would have been indifferent at best.
