Destruction of statues

They asked for what is forthcoming -President Donald Trump announced early on Tuesday morning that he has “authorized” the federal government to arrest anyone who vandalizes statues or monuments on federal property.

The announcement from the president comes after rioters have destroyed numerous statues of former presidents in recent days, including statues of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Ulysses S. Grant.

“I have authorized the Federal Government to arrest anyone who vandalizes or destroys any monument, statue or other such Federal property in the U.S. with up to 10 years in prison, per the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act, or such other laws that may be pertinent,” Trump tweeted. “This action is taken effective immediately, but may also be used retroactively for destruction or vandalism already caused. There will be no exceptions!”---Trump later addressed the extremists who tried to set up an “autonomous zone” in Washington, D.C., tweeting: “There will never be an ‘Autonomous Zone’ in Washington, D.C., as long as I’m your President. If they try they will be met with serious force!”Last night, Trump weighed in on the rioters who tried to destroy a statue of former President Andrew Jackson earlier in the day, writing: “Numerous people arrested in D.C. for the disgraceful vandalism, in Lafayette Park, of the magnificent Statue of Andrew Jackson, in addition to the exterior defacing of St. John’s Church across the street. 10 years in prison under the Veteran’s Memorial Preservation Act. Beware!

Yet he does nothing about Russia meddling in our elections...

Only U.S. Army veterans are covered by the law. That leaves out Robert E. Lee and his other traitorous friends.

The Veteran's Memorial Protection Act protects memorials “commemorating the service of any person or persons in the armed forces of the United States ...” Yeah, Robert E. Lee served in the US armed forces prior to turning traitor, but he's commemorated for leading America's enemy. 

Obviously there are other laws that could punish offenders. But not the law that the President (probably in the bunker) cited. 

So Big Hero Trump suddenly cares about our country's heritage? He wants to observe our country's laws?

I'm given to understand that colluding with foreign powers to interfere in our elections is both illegal and treasonous. So I'm sure he'll be resigning and presenting himself for prosecution soon. Because, he's y'know, the law and order President.

I believe that the President and most other sane individuals thought that the vandalism would stop or be policed by individual states and jurisdictions.  And , as usual, you liberal trolls have completly ignored what will happen in relation to furure vandalism, as expected.

I don't care about a few statues. I care about Trump's criminality.

And yes, I care about systemic racism. The attempts to pull down statues are misplaced, because they allow Fox "News" and other right-wing propaganda outlets to focus on that instead of the underlying issues.

Isn't there more things, other than a bunch of old statures commemorating treason against the Republic, that an American President should be more concerned about right now?
