That's not very effective humor in my book, though I acknowledge that it's a tried and true trope. Audiences feel smarter when they watch some bumbling fool get into trouble.

I didn't think that Clark Griswold was any different from Chase's SNL character who kept tripping over and knocking things down. These movies were just a different kind of slapstick.

Chase brought his SNL persona into a movie with Goldie Hawn (the title of which I'm too lazy to look up), and it was surprisingly effective, because they didn't overdo the "bumbling fool" part.

What was the old-time term for someone who is always fate's butt-monkey? Sad Sack?

Yes, a different kind of slapstick.

You must not have liked the Pink Panther movies with Peter Sellers or those Mr. Bean movies with Rowan Atkinson.

Different strokes for different folks.

Hope you had a good Christmas and have a happy New Year.

I don't think so...that's someone who gets blamed for something he didn't do or cause, like, well...Biden for inflation. Someone who just has a lot of shit happen to him, that's another term.

Fun fact: the original scapegoats were actual goats that would get slaughtered during religious ceremonies after the congregation's sins were somehow transferred onto them. Don't know what sect or cult did that. Hope they had a barbecue afterward, at least.

"that's someone who gets blamed for something he didn't do or cause, like, well...Biden for inflation" -- Who was President in 2020-2024?    The numbers - unlike you - do not lie.

Yeah, I didn't like either comedian or movie series. I did like Mr Bean in the series of comedy sketches performed to accompany the 2012 London Olympics.

My preferred humor genre is the Monty Python-esque concept of putting "normal" people in ridiculous situations and watching as they struggle to cope and maintain their decorum. Of course, that works best if the subjects are Brits.

I also love parodies. That's why Airplane! works for me.

I hope you have a great New Year as well.

BAD THING! WHO PREZIDUNT? ITZ HIS FAWLT!

Using your logic, I blame Trump for the covid pandemic! Who was President when the outbreak happened? The numbers don't lie!!!!😆😆😆

Happy New Year, fool!

Now, fuck off. This is a fun thread. Stop shitting on everything.

The covid pandemic was a worldwide event, - inflation in the United States was a direct result of brain dead Biden's policies. Now that we have a REAL President, inflation is down and continues to decrease. Face it, you are a liar with no facts to back your moronic assertations. Now, you go and "fuck off" you POS.....

The Chevy Chase movie with Goldie was Seems Like Old Times.  Very good   How about the Nick Cage movie Family Man I think was the name.

That sounds right. Cage has perhaps set the record for the number of bad movies he's acted in, but his acting in and of itself is fine. Family Man seems like it goes against type, as Cage's roles have mostly been action heroes and such. That's always refreshing IMHO, particularly when the actor uses it to lampoon his usual character type. Like when Vin Diesel wore lipstick and a negligee in...well, maybe I'm imagining that one

Liked Nick Cage a lot in Moonstruck.  Wonderful movie.
