Divorcing Cable TV

Cable is going up another $50/month.  I'm tired of paying to watch almost nothing but commercials no matter what channel or program.  18 minutes of programming, the rest is commercials.

Have any of you divorced your Cable TV?  Did you/do you miss it?  I don't watch sports much.  I'd have local stations and Internet.  I'd save $150 a month.  Can I just subscribe to Netflix?

Thoughts? Advice?  Thanks.

I did it a long time ago. Now, I rely solely on streaming platforms and rotate between them. For example, If I feel like I have watched everything I want on Netflix, I cancel for three months. I don't miss it at all and I find I have more time for productive things. My current favorite streaming platform is AppleTV because their originals are so strong. If you want more of a traditional cable lineup you can opt for Sling, Fubo or YouTube TV.

IMO Sling is the best at $46 a month if you want to stick to a more traditional line-up.

Netflix gives me all the entertainment I need, and I get it for free with my phone plan (TMobile). I wouldn't pay for cable.

An inexpensive option if you like cable type programming in frndlytv.

I cut the cord years ago and cycle different streaming apps.

Pluto is a great free option.

I dropped all cable years ago - I only have Amazon Prime. There is plenty of great programming on Prime. Plus with Prime you get free delivery of Amazon purchased. Prime costs $139 for a year.

I really need to evaluate my TV experience.    Its crazy what I pay but I've wrote it off to a luxury, discretionary purchase to this point.

I pay $250/month for Cable/Internet with Xfinity which includes MAX streaming.   But then I pay $15/mo for Netflix and Amazon Prime membership on top of that.  I get Hulu free with my cellphone contract with T-Mobile.

Live TV via Youtube is alot cheaper than my cable company and you get all the same channels or at least the ones I watch.    But I will say this for XFinity - their product is far superior to everything else.    It connects all your steaming and live TV into one place.    So I can just say "Game of Thrones" into the microphone and its smart enough to know what streaming service thats on and take me right to it.   Thats pretty nice.   It doesnt warrant the price tag but I like it anyway.   For now Im keeping it.   But  If things ever get tight with money thats the first thing Im cutting.

I would also recommend getting a free trial to one of the cable-type streaming services or several of them, they all have free trials. Then if you decide it will work for you, you can cancel cable.

I very much appreciate the responses and suggestions.  Very helpful.  Thanks.

I heard on a local station a short bit about a study showing many people are paying far more for combined services than they would for cable.  I kicked cable to the curb in 2011, now just use Apple TV and YouTube.  We rarely have our TV on at all, maybe 1 time a month.
