Does any anyone believe that the impeachment rules are set up to gain the truth?

You conveniently left off the part where they can go to court and see if the Judiciary will force the Executive Branch to appear.  But they didn't do that, did they honey bunny?  Why not?

They're already IN court, doofus--the impeachment inquiry functions as a court proceeding. Congress has the power to issue subpoenas, and has always had that power. They don't need the courts to validate that power.

Pelosi et al. could actually charge Trump and his lackeys with contempt of Congress for ignoring subpoenas and have them arrested. They've chosen not to do that. Why? Tactics, I suppose. They don't want to give Trump a pretext to whine that he's being treated unfairly.

Also, yes, ignoring subpoenas can in and of itself be considered an impeachable offense and every time Trump does it, or one of his lackeys does it at Trump's direction, that strengthens the case for impeachment. Presidents are not supposed to consider themselves above the law. They, like any other citizens, are legally obligated to respond to subpoenas. Every time Trump ignores a subpoena, he just digs the hole he's in a little deeper.

More gaseous windage from their the lying liberal left.

I'm sorry, Charles, but you're blaming Democrats for Trump stiff arming the subpoenas?   I'm sure Democrats could go through 3 years of court appeals to force Trump to comply (like with his tax returns) but they feel they have an overwhelming amount of evidence without him.

But he's free to show up instead of hiding like a coward under his desk.   And your free to demand he show up instead of rationalizing him hiding under his desk like a coward

Have a great day !

One asks as to what is more important - spending one's time doing the job, as President, he was elected to do - OR- complying with subpoenas that have no significance in the real world? Attending the DemocRatic dog and pony show will be as fruitful as the Russian collusion farce.

No one is above the law, including the President. No one gets to decide if a subpoena has "significance" or has an option to respond to it or not. Not responding to a subpoena is against the law. Period.

Also, PJ is right. Trump and his lackeys have been whining that Trump wasn't able to testify or call witnesses during the earlier phase of the inquiry. Now, he can--but he's too much of a chickenshit little man to show up.

We might discuss whether Trump is actually doing his job, but I would break out laughing too often to do that.

Some can still not see the forest for the trees....

Thanks, Kev,  I needed a good laugh.

Yeah, true in principle, but in the real world?  Well...you know.

In the real world, the President should be held accountable just like everyone else. Anybody that advocates he shouldn't lose his job because powerfull people always get away with it is perpetuating the problem.

Actually, in the real world, Nixon said, "If the President does it, it's not a crime," and found out how wrong he was.

If this country doesn't operate in the real world according to its principles, we've already lost to Trumpism and might as well give up and let the fascists and racists have the keys to the kingdom.
