The Effect on Small Businesses When Raising Minimun Wage

Look at fast food chains that used to employ many counter people & retail stores that employed cashiers and baggers.

Since the expansion of minimum wage laws those establishments now have kiosks and self serve.

Once the cost of the employees exceeds the technology there goes the employees.

Idiotic to make a generalized statement about "those establishments." And if stupid Tom ever finds a self serve fast food chain, I hope he lets us know.

I have been to many of these states and in many of them are paying in the $15 range based on the help wanted signs.

You have to go to the poor areas to see that. Now WV raised their minimum wage to $8.xx. I am very familiar with parts of that state as I used to spend a lot of time there.  In a smaller city it isn't unusual for there to be a massive amount of competition for even being a host that seats people at a restaurant that only offers 20 hours a week. I dated a gal that took a job like that and said it was the only way to get a waitress job. In the poor areas jobs we consider entry level have numerous applicants and a lot of businesses will only pay the minimum wage.

One of the reasons red MAGA goober states are poor is that so many people aren't being paid a living wage. So businesses don't get customers, taxes aren't enough to support basic services, and commerce in and out of the state is stifled.

You can't just walk in and grab your own burger and fries at any of those places. That's what "self serve" means--you obtain the product yourself and take it to the cashier. No fast food place lets you prepare and package your own food.

Idiot

You can't just walk in and grab your own burger and fries at any of those places

Actually you can

By having kiosks and self check out that reduces inflation

Tom, they were moving to Kiosks regardless. A kiosk is a lot less expensive than someone making $7.25 an hour, so I don't find this to be a persuasive argument. That's ok as AI is going to replace so many people, I think in ten years we will be looking at a 20% - 30% unemployment rate. If you don't do work that requires you to perform physical tasks, most people's jobs aren't long for this world. Ask your pal Elon if you don't believe me.

No, you can't. Someone has to cook it for you and bag it or put it on a tray and hand it to you. That's not "self serve."

Don't be stupid, Tom.
