The Electoral College: America's dumbest invention

You were a little off with your 5 points.  In the Morning Consult poll taken September 13-15, she is ahead by a record high 6 points among likely voters.  https://pro.morningconsult.com/trackers/2024-presidential-election-polling

The number I used was an aggregate--an average of 12 polls. I believe it was CNN that posted that 5% number, but I don't remember which 12 polls were examined.

Harris is leading by about 5% nationally. That translates into about a dead heat in the Electoral College.

We've had the loser of the election proclaimed the winner twice in this century.

The slave states insisted on getting disproportionate representation. So in order to make the United States as large as possible, they allowed the Electoral College as well as overrepresentation in the Senate, with the result that Wyoming has the same representation as California, even though the latter has eighty times the population of the former.

The only way to eliminate the Electoral College is via a Constitutional amendment, which, of course, the slave, er, Republican states won't ratify. So if the loser of the election gets the White House yet again, how do you think the public will react? Will there be some kind of popular movement, and how effective could it be?

I see yet another "win" by the loser of the election to be a precursor to a breakup of the US, and maybe even a civil war. I for one don't want to live in the same country as the slave states (Trump slaves). How about you? How would you feel about a breakup?

Nothing better than mob rule in your eyes?  The founders were much smarter than you, they wanted a slow and inefficient Republic where a mere 51% couldn't enact stupid rules like legalizing slavery.  I guess a Democracy is what you want where a majority can overrule a small minority and smash any resistance to tyranny.

Maybe you'd be happier moving to Canada or England and be a subject of the King.

If someone doesn't like democracy, usually because they're in the minority on some issue or the other, they call it "mob rule." Of course, they're perfectly OK with it if their side is in the majority.

I'm sorry, Aaron buddy, but if 10 people want to do "A" and only 9 people want to do "B," we're gonna do "A." Might seem unjust (NO FAIR! NO FAIR! NO FAIR!) to the "B" people, but wouldn't it be even more unfair to do "B" instead? HMMMMMMMM??

Oh, and brush up on your American history, buddy boy; the Founding Fathers legalized slavery when they wrote it into the Constitution. Thus, there was never any law passed legalizing slavery; it would have been redundant.

Your tired old standard bitch is called "the tyrrany of the majority," a phrase often used by people who think thir votes should count for more than other people's.

Here is a outstanding article on why we have an electoral college which included the 3/5 compomise https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2016/11/12/13598316/donald-trump-electoral-college-slavery-akhil-reed-amar

Well, of course the EC is an artifact of slavery, and of course it was created as a sop to the slave states. The Founding Fathers feared that a nation comprised only of the free states wouldn't be able to fend off England if it tried to retake the colonies (which took a while, but indeed happened in 1812). So they let the slave states be overrepresented, both in the Senate and the EC.

I've been amazed and a bit horrified that not one in a hundred people I talk to knows this. You shouldn't be able to escape high school without knowing these aspects of our history forwards and backwards. But then, I also advocate that you should have to pass the equivalent of a high school civics class final exam is order to be able to vote in a national election. That would elbow all of Trump's "the uneducated" out of the bus, hm?

Now this remark is funny -- "But then, I also advocate that you should have to pass the equivalent of a high school civics class final exam is order to be able to vote in a national election." - for doing so would remove 95% of the brainwashed liberal DemocRat base.

Uh huh. If you gave a simple civics test to MAGAs and normal people, the normal people would blow the MAGAs away. How do I know? Your favorite source, David--YouTube videos!!!!!!!!!!
