How many documented instances are there of a non-citizen registering to vote?
When Georgia audited over 8 million voters they found 20 potential non-citizens registered. Only 9 had ever voted. (Those nine are a problem but are hardly a voter base)
When Utah audit it's over 2 million voters they found one instance of a non-citizen registered and zero instances of voting.

There are ways States can and do verify citizenship behind the scenes. They can check birth records, social security records, naturalization records etc.
There are ways to prove citizenship without requiring someone take papers to a brick and mortar location.
It is my belief that this is actually about making it harder for people to register. Especially young people.
They are playing a numbers game. Higher turnout generally favors the Democrats so the Republicans are trying to create an artificially low turnout.
Personally I think the strategy will end up biting them in the butt. It will disproportionately affect rural voters over urban voters. How many people, especially younger people will have the time and desire to drive 2 hours to the only county elections office that does registrations?

Registering and voting illegally would include the commission of at least five felonies.

i remember getting one feeble answer from some dumb MAGA pig who is no longer here. It said that Democrats were "obviously" bribing illegal voters. I asked him how much money it would take to get people to commit multiple crimes that could land them in prison. He fell silent.
