The Fab Four sings "All Bob's Money"

Bob, you're beyond the reach of education--or facts. And you don't know a goddamn thing about my nephew. He's BLIND. Whether he's "able-bodied" is a matter of semantics, but I can assure you that he can no longer perform his former job of editing academic documents.

And I don't care if you know someone with no head who has nonetheless secured a lucrative job as a Trump aide.

Lewie, to clarify, I consider a blind person to NOT be able bodied.  I believe that we should have a financial support system for your nephew and those like him.  95% of freeloaders in the US are able bodied folks who have not applied themselves with the efforts needed to be self sufficient.  They made their bed.

Boilerman asked "give me one example."  Kevin gave one example, his nephew who lost his eyesight.  I'm so sorry, Kevin.  Boilerman gave a success story.

This is a perfect example of generalization.  Many people with devastating birth defects, injuries, illnesses have overcome, in amazing fashion, their limitations to become productive.  Some by the sweat of their brow, some by finding connections (training, mentorship, finances, hiring policies).  An extreme example is Stephen Hawking, who was well into his profession when his illness started.  Others' deficits are so catastrophic as to render them completely and totally non-functional for their type of work or any kind of work no matter what.  Talk about depression.

But it is silly to argue with one or two examples.  I do believe the disability system can disincentivize persons who might otherwise do a deep dive and find new capacities.  But there is no value in "one example" either way as relates to this discussion.

Candy, here is my original comment.  "Able bodied people are "able" to fend for themselves if they choose to.  If they choose not to fend for themselves, why should others pay their way?"

Kevin's nephew is blind and not "able bodied", thus not relevent to my comments.

Boilerman, you misread me.  I don't disagree with that comment.  You asked for "one example."   You've read enough from me to know that I tend to do deeper dives into arguments for arguments sake, not to say one is right and one is wrong.

I really doubt that disability payments or any other social welfare programs designed to assist the disabled serve as any kind of disincentive for them to work. The amounts received are barely enough to eke out an existence. No one would choose that if they had an alternative.

What annoys me is his silly comments about "95% of freeloaders." That statement isn't supported by facts--it's his way of expressing his conservative/Republican/Trumper view that everybody who receives government assistance is some kind of lazy mooch.

I guess that's why "compassionate conservatives" have to go to such pains to distinguish themselves; most conservatives aren't the least bit compassionate. If they liberated a concentration camp and had a loaf of bread, they'd insist on a financial statement from an inmate before they gave it to him.

Ask a simple question, and the liberal goes nuts. I was going to try to figure out why his monthly disability payment was so small. Never mind. Trying to help someone so filled with hate is a waste of time.

Sweet Old Bob, please don't sink to the hypocrisy of claiming you were trying to be helpful.

And do you think you're insulting me by calling me "the liberal"? I'm PROUD to be a liberal. At least I'm not an immoral, selfish, stupid, Trump's-balls-licking conservative.

It has become obvious that kevin who probably has never been to Vegas, is to obnoxious to have a conversation with.

"It has become obvious." Hahahahaha. i LIVED THERE for eight years and have since spent 3-4 months there every winter/spring. So yeah, you're right Tom, except for those times, I've never been there.

Is it a Trumper thing to say "it's obvious" just before you say something that's complete bullshit? Just wondering.
