As I said before, according to one guy, a real winner named John Lott. Part of his history includes the time when authors of the bestselling Freakonomics book accused him of faking some data, and he sued for defamation. He lost the case and then he lost on appeal.
After Lott was challenged on a gun safety survey he published, he said he couldn't produce the original data because of a hard drive crash, he couldn't find the original tally sheets because he lost them, and he couldn't recall the names of any of the students who had worked on it. And he created two fake supporters (sock puppets) to support his work, which he later admitted.
I will repeat. On an academic Internet board, HE CREATED TWO FAKE SUPPORTERS (SOCK PUPPETS) TO SUPPORT HIS WORK, WHICH HE LATER ADMITTED.

Just like you don't need to fact-check anything Trump says; you know it's a lie, often a stupid and outrageous one, and given that many of his most egregious lies are meant to be a distraction, it's best to not even bother to test them.
