Florida Conservative Paradise

Florida reported its highest number of new Covid-19 cases in one day -- 15,300 on Saturday, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

That's a new record for the most new cases in a single day from any state -- including New York state earlier in the pandemic.

If Florida were a country, it would rank No. 9 in the number of Covid-19 cases worldwide, according to Johns Hopkins data Monday.

Eight countries have higher counts than Florida: the United States, Brazil, India, Russia, Peru, Chile, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

Bad things happen when the people that don't believe science are in charge.

I believe that Florida and California are having a real resurgance due in part to the refusal of citizens not utilizing proven safety measures. Apparently going to the beach and socialising are a "right" that they felt was more important than their (and others) health. They are now paying the price for their "rights" and stupidity.

I agree with you David.  Unfortunately, it's happening everywhere.  I heard two tourists at the dollar store yesterday. One said he wasn't going to make his kids wear a mask on their vacation.

Remember how our resident Trumptards were citing statistics that "proved" that the coronavirus loved to infect Democratic cities and states? Where's all that hypocritical bullshit now?

Mark's right, though...but he didn't mention the cause of all the rebelliousness against simple safety guidelines. It's Trump. A LOT of people seem him as a role model (insane as that may be), so when he says the coronavirus is nothing to worry about, he won't wear a mask, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.---they believe and emulate him.

Lack of leadership matters.

It should be noted that the big outbreak areas all fall within Liberal areas of Florida.  This shit's easy enough to research.

Boiler, it doesn't make a difference. Like they did in Texas, the governor issued an executive order saying city or county government could not issue any Covid orders of their own. It all falls on DeSantis.

As it should be.  Miami is not the same as rural Florida.  You blame DeSantis because Liberal politicians didn't take appropriate messures?

I don't know enough about the legalities, but it's possible that, like Wisconsin, a Florida governor doesn't have the legal authority to shut down the entire state.  I suspect that you don't know either.

I blame DeSantis because he forbid Miami from taking appropriate measures. That's how it works. Google it.

Jesus God, Boiler, you're stupid. The coronavirus does not test an area for its politics before infecting it.

There is one factor that has affected the severity of outbreaks. In states with Republican governors, such as Arizona, Texas, and Florida, those governors PREVENTED mayors from implementing basic safety measures in their cities.

The difference between Republican and Democratic leadership in this crisis is that Democrats have wanted to slow the outbreak, while Republicans want to please Trump.

So give me "liberal" governance every time during a pandemic.

When did the Florida governor turn over authority to the counties?
