PJ has told us that the US is oil independent. How much of the oil the United States consumes is imported?
PJ, if you believe that Biden was in any way encouraging oil exploration, you're a nut.
Since that term can be twisted by idiot propaganda-spewing conservitards to make any idiot argument they want, let's define it.
"Oil independent" means that a given country can meet all of its domestic consumption needs with domestic production alone. We can easily do that if need be. We DON'T do that now, because it's cheaper to buy it from Canada and other producers.
In some kind of domestic and/or global crisis that would prevent us from importing oil, we could make up for the shortfall by increasing production by about 40%. We have ample supplies, which is what makes us "oil independent." (And we always have.)
This is in contrast to most European nations, which MUST import oil. We choose to do that.
I realize I've gone WAAAAAY too deep for Boiler.
