Global Warming

Now I understand, with today being a classic example of the effects, for example, according to the "evidence" -- What is causing global warming? The evidence is clear: the main cause of climate change is burning fossil fuels such as oil, gas, and coal. When burnt, fossil fuels release carbon dioxide into the air, causing the planet to heat up.

What you don't understand is that global warming is causing more severe weather events everywhere, due to more net energy in the atmosphere and altered heat circulation patterns. This includes greater regional variations and seasonal changes. So storms are stronger and often carry more moisture than in the past.

There was some goober senator from Oklahoma, I forget his name, who stood there holding a snowball and speechified that well, how could there be global warming if we still have snow. That idiocy is why we haven't taken this problem seriously and now, it may be too late to fix.

Idiot that doesn't know the difference between climate and weather makes idiot thread.

The key word is "warming" - step outside and explain the "warming" you find.

That's the difference between climate and weather, David. And it's silly to say that just because it's cold outside today, it isn't getting warmer overall.

How are you liberals going to control CO2 emissions and overall so-called global warming generated weather events? How much tax money do you need to infinitesimally affect either? Are you going to prohibit John Kerry from flying in his CO2 - emitting plane while attending world climate events? If you believe one can control the weather, then.." I can't help you, Sundance".

I'm going to the barn and watch football with the reindeer, with Santa's permission. Turns out they like beer..but they're a sloppy bunch.

Merry stuff.

How much has the global temperature averages increased in the last 100 years? How much has it increased since 1980 ( post industrial revolution very much included)? 1.4 degrees F. Yet, the liberals still push the Global Warming initiative, which in effect is among the largest attempts to increase governmental and academic spending in world history. Polar ice caps melting, polar bears have no place to live anymore, cows / feedlot animals can no longer fart, tornados and hurricanes abound, severe drought, and the oceans are going to engulf our shorelines and cities; show me some verifiable facts / proof ( and not from some academic institution that obtained their funding from the very network supporting this crap). I'm all for pollution restrictions and control responsibilities and accountability for those who need it. Sure, the climate has changed..always has. But this initiative is a long ways from common sense. These people think they're smarter than God ( whom many will deny the existence of); they ain't, but will keep tryin while we all go broke ( except for Elon, maybe). Just thought I'd offer a typically conservative climate viewpoint before my preferred game comes on.

Yet, I'd still like to wish you all a good holiday, etc. *l*

Climate change denial is a conservitard mantra (though declining in popularity, I know). It's no longer possible to ignore it or minimize its effects, though, so only those RepubliQ whose primary earning sources are the fossil fuel companies have remained strident in such denial. Any citizen, yourself included, should realize the disingenuous, self-serving nature of that position.

Insofar as "verifiable facts/proof" that it's happening...well, there's a mountain of such proof out there; the data are no longer anything but certain. Since you have a preconceived stance, though, I doubt that my citing any of that data would help. You will, I fear, believe what you want to believe. If it makes you feel any better, I used to question the existence of climate change myself. Then, the data became irrefutable. What I wanted to believe was irrelevant. I hope you get there too, someday.

As far as whether and how much we should spend money to mitigate this problem...well, put a price on the death of millions and the suffering of tens of millions more, and what expenditures to forestall those events are justified. And no, that ain't hyperbole. Tens of millions. Maybe hundreds of millions. We in the wealthy nations will be inconvenienced. Those in the poorer nations will die like flies.

The hilarious/sad thing is that conservatives are, by definition, terrified by change...and yet, here is the single most consequential change in human history, happening right now, and conservatives don't want to even TRY to stop it. I guess all those yummy lobbyist checks have compelling power.

And just for grins...I'm smarter than God. That's because I exist, and he doesn't. (My cat is also smarter than God, to which he would respond, "Well, duh.") Merry Christmas!

Lovely. You just continue to believe that our ancestors emerged from some primordial goo big-bang explosion..I ain't buyin it, however. But enjoy the holidays anyway, while I will continue to support the intelligent design features that omnipresently surround me ..like the Cowboy game. I do apologize for using the phrase " intelligent design" in any way affiliated with the Cowboys. That was a stretch, likely.

It saddens me that so many humans are in the personal business of head in the sand--and not just re climate change: smoking, voting Republican, eating unhealthily, driving too fast, religion, and a host of other blunders and malfeasances. When the likely consequences are pointed out, clamp yer hands over yer ears and sing, "La la la la la I can't hear you"--that's the ticket.

I have a brighter immediate future than you, regardless. I'm going to watch and root for the Niners.
