A federal appeals court panel ruled Friday that Jan. 6 defendants who obstructed Congress’ work had their sentences improperly lengthened by judges who determined that they had interfered with the “administration of justice.”

The DOJ used an "obstruction of justice" charge against some of the rioters, and when those rioters were convicted by juries of their peers, the judges sentenced them based on all the charges they were convicted of. When the conservative Supreme Court ruled that the obstruction statute was misapplied, the sentences were reduced accordingly—something that has happened probably thousands of times in the US.

Did the fact that Supreme Court is a conservative majority bias them in their ruling? I don't care, but when something like this goes against MAGA, oh my! Panites are twisted and lawfare is shouted from the highest rafters.

Crimes were committed aiding and abetting criminal acts.  Because Democrats ignored laws doesn't mean it's legal.  All crooks.

If Democrats allow lynchings of blacks because of the color of their skin, Kevin argues that since it's allowed,  it's legal.

From CNN

A federal appeals court in Washington issued a ruling Friday on the sentences of some January 6 rioters who were convicted of misdemeanors for trespassing at the Capitol and were sentenced to both jail time and probation.

WASHINGTON, Oct 13 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday held top officials at the Washington, D.C., Department of Corrections in civil contempt, after ruling they violated the civil rights of a U.S. Capitol riot defendant by impeding his access to medical care.

Judges decided a smaller group — should be locked up while they awaited trial

Yes. Justice was applied when the MAGA murderers were sentenced, but it was quite lenient when you consider that each and every one of them was guilty of murder. Then MAGASCOTUS reduced their sentences even further.

If it's allowed, Kevin argues that it's not illegal.  Only a Lyin' Liberal makes such a ludicrous claim.

i recall you posting that BLM protestors should be shot and killed by police without any due process.   So never mind that  I don't believe your "fair trial tragedy" the important thing to understand is that you don't either

Yep. Boilerboob is a hypocrite and has no honor. And we sure know how he feels about nonwhite people. He even invents imaginary friends to assuage his guilt about his bigotry.

Court outcomes regarding the federal govt. witholding of criminal justice grant funds from states / cities who don't cooperate with ICE immigration efforts have largely favored the cities to date ( most, not all). There are executive branch powers and laws already on the books, however,  that do apply for cities that harbor or protect known criminals from prosecution / or withhold info on this classification of undocumented migrants. It's likely why the majority of the current efforts are focusing on this  'criminal' group.

(the above is a somewhat left- leaning organization publication.. for those who care )

Ultimately, like a lot of other current ongoing processes, Congress needs to enact laws with specificity to address this issue. Like a lot of other current conflicts, this one will also likely end up in front of SCOTUS. But it's  a mixed review of inputs and legs to stand on for this fight concerning the true criminal elements among the migrants; the administration has lawful accommodations on their side here for known bad guys but the laws need clarified / enacted by Congress / SCOTUS to be barb-free. That'll take time that somebody doesn't have the wherewithall to provide, probably.
