The Green New Deal plan from Bernie

What group cares only about profitability? Republicans! They are too myopic to understand that a program doesn't have to generate an immediate dollar return to be beneficial or worthwhile.

The phrase "throw (bazillions) of dollars at" is loaded, and is a favorite childish tactic used by Republicans for decades. How about "throwing billions of dollars at" Trump's wall? How about "throwing billions of dollars away" on Trump's tariffs? Any government expenditure YOU don't like, it's "throwing money away." We can't help it if you are incapable of perceiving the value of improvements to the environment.

At any rate, Sweet Old Bob, since by your use of the term "enviro-nuts" (as if caring about the air we breathe and the water we drink is nuts), you evidently don't care about the environmental benefits of sustainable energy, you can and probably should focus on its economic benefits. Those already are substantial, and will continue to grow. Step out of the straitjacket of your extremist conservative ideology for a while, and you'll see what I mean.

I assume, given your comment about funneling huge amounts of cash blah blah, that you're strongly opposed to Trump sending billions of dollars in aid every year to Israel. I assume you won't vote for him because of that, given your responsible, principled fiscal stance.

Yeah, the enviro-nuts are all about the environment, not the redistribution of money. Cap and trade is only about the environment. Carbon credits are only about the environment. The Paris accord, which exempted India from doing anything to reduce carbon emissions until after they received $2.5 Trillion in foreign aid was only about the environment. Destroying the environment of desert turtles with solar farms in Nevada is only about the environment, not the government subsidies used to build them. Incinerating 6,000 birds a year at the Ivanpah solar plant is only about the environment, not the government subsidies used to build it.

There is no time in the entire history of this planet (billions of years) that the climate didn't change. It is cyclical, and natural. There have been periods when the earth's climate was much warmer, others when it was much cooler, and none of those periods had anything to do with human CO2 emissions. I've even seen where enviro-nuts claim that CO2 is a pollutant....!

Sustainable energy has to come at a reasonable cost and at a reasonable pace. It also cannot instantly replace the extraction and refinement of petroleum products due to how many products are made from them, like plastic, and due to how expensive it would be to replace all of the things it currently fuels, costs that would be borne by consumers at every income level. Enviro-nuts want this stuff to happen in a few decades. Impossible, but that won't stop them from trying to shove this stuff down our collective throats.

Sweet Old Bob, you may not care about the environment, but those of us who breathe air and drink water do. Why does caring about those things make someone an "enviro-nut"? I mean, you may spend your days wreathed in clouds of cigarette smoke, but...

Sustainable energy DOES come at a cost lower than that of fossil fuel extraction and consumption. That doesn't mean it will "instantly replace" fossil fuels. Fossil fuels will still be needed for the manufacture of products derived from them. They will also be needed to provide products with high energy densities, such as jet fuel. The petroleum industry won't go away. We just won't be as utterly dependent on it any more. That strikes me as a good thing, and only that industry would see it as a negative development.

See, Bob, I've dignified you with a reasoned response! Rejoice!

"Sweet Old Bob, you may not care about the environment, but those of us who breathe air and drink water do. Why does caring about those things make someone an "enviro-nut"?"

The "republicans are against clean air and clean water" claim is BS. We have that, and it won't take trillions of dollars to keep it.

Who is going to pay for electric cars for poor and low income people? Who is going to replace or convert poor and low income people's natural gas and fuel oil furnaces?

If you think enviro-nuts aren't insisting that ALL of what they want should happen in just a couple decades, you aren't paying attention.

You're cute when you've lost an argument, Sweet Old Bob.

Can't rationally or factually counter what I say, so you declare that you won the argument. You don't even get a participation trophy!

Bob, feel free to think that you're right. It matters not. I don't want to convince you of the truth any more than I want to talk to the neighbor's dog about nuclear physics.
