Happy Fourth, everyone!

I'm having a get-together with some friends. We've all recently (within a week) tested negative and we've all agreed that no one is going to bring a family member or guest who hasn't been tested. There are reports of whining about this.

We're going to do the usual stuff---BBQ, lawn games, drink beer. One of my friends is bringing a rather impressive arsenal of fireworks that will be legal for the front lawn. I made a giant tub of guacamole that based on previous experience, is going to last about ten minutes. Another friend has procured a mountain of pork ribs and will be showcasing his Stone Age grilling skills.

This town has canceled all Fourth events because of a fear of the consequences of congregating. If your local authorities are so irresponsible as to allow such events, I urge you not to attend. Stay home and make your celebrations modest and small.

Think of this as the Fourth before we get rid of two terrible diseases that have a symbiotic relationship: Covid-19 and Trump. Keep yourselves and your families safe, and we will get through this. For today, enjoy being Americans (even if you're secretly wishing you lived in some other country at this point).

I find it interesting that Kevin feels it is OK to have a get-together with others at his home. I wonder, is everyone going to wear a mask, as Kevin has said should be mandatoty? Even though everyone coming there has been tested within a week, does that mean that during the time after testing and his scheduled get-together that none of them could have become infected? Hopefully not. But there is that chance.  On a personal note, I am proud to say that am glad that I live in the United States.

Did kevin's alleged friends mind him spending a few hours posting on this site?

Poor old DonDiego thanks Kevin Lewis for his 4th of July good wishes !

teechur and poor old DonDiego spent the day at home, in their new home -  a suburb of Nashville.  But that doesn't mean there weren't fireworks.

It turns out a significant portion of the residents in their new neighborhood had stocked up on a variety of explosives.  So the two of us enjoyed lots of loud noises and colors in the sky on the evening of the 4th !

Just as the Founding Fathers had wished.

Because fireworks displays had been canceled throughout much of Oregon due to social gathering concerns, our local burg came into possession of a LOT of fireworks...and there was a place to set them off that was visible from a wide variety of vantage points, from the safety of one's car.

Everybody accordingly found a good place to park and enjoyed a display that lasted over half an hour. Not only that, local residents, who had stocked up, set off mini-displays for a half hour before the main show.

I thought to myself how much more fun we were having than those Trumper morons who packed into a crowd to watch Trump's fireworks and the nauseating, self-aggrandizing speeches that preceded them. It was a community event, but safe and without a crowd physically mingling.

Unless the local berg had a permit, they broke the law. RE;  By Jim Ryan | The Oregonian/OregonLive---------- - Illegal fireworks

Unless you have a permit, popular displays such as bottle rockets, firecrackers and Roman candles are against Oregon law, according to the state fire marshal's office.

The office says that without a permit, Oregon law prohibits the possession, sale or use of any firework that explodes, flies into the air or travels more than 12 feet horizontally on the ground.a graphic showing what fireworks are legal in oregon

The police were everywhere during this event, so I assume they were monitoring local fireworks usage. I also assume that the city was given permission for the display by the local fire marshal. Also, the area where the fireworks were detonated is completely surrounded by water.

So then, you had no permit, as directed by law. You then, broke the law. Apparently you do as you please, whether lawful or not. Typical liberal.

No, actually, we used fireworks that were legal according to fire laws, as did many of our neighbors. We used the LEGAL FIREWORKS that were depicted in the notice you so helpfully posted.

You shame yourself the most when you talk about things you know nothing about.
