Heading to Laughlin for a reconnaissance mission

Kevin, I'm flying from Indy to Phoenix, then to Vegas, then to Indy.  My gas would cost $53 alone from PHX, to LAS, to Laughlin.  My flight is $47.

Obviously, it's different if your point of origin is Indianapolis. But you said it would be Phoenix

Caution - Cub home games sell out early.  If you have time, catch a game in Suprise or Peoria.  Nice  casual ballparks, friendly staff; parking is free.  Salt River is also nice & Talking Stick Casino is 2 miles away

Assumng you will drive on 93.  Once you get north of Wickenburg, make sure you have a full tank.  Cell service can cut out & road can be lonely until you get to 40.  I think DB Cooper lives there somewhere.

There is gas in Wikiup which is 60 miles north of wickenburg, but expensive.  Nice spot to catch a break though.

Suggest Mr D's for a quick bite in Kingman (right off of 40 as you reconnect to 93).  Quirky diner with decent food and nice people.

Tom, my brother booked our tickets at noon yesterday just as single game tickets went on sale.  1/4 the way down the first base line for game one, 19th row.  75% down the first base line for game two, 12th row.  Man, I'm glad that we're staying at a friends house.  I checked hotel prices and the Mesa Courtyard is $1500 for four nights.

Not suprised at the prices.  Spring training is big business in Phoenix.  There are 15 teams here; all pretty close to each other.  It is also peak tourist golf season.

Nice you got tickets!  Haven't been, but it is supposed to be very nice

Mesa is even further than Phoenix to Laughlin; probably close to a 5 hour drive

Might want to read my original comments.

Tom's wrong about it being a five-hour drive from Mesa, since it's a 3.5-hour drive from downtown Phoenix, but when has he ever been right about anything? LOL

I did. You said you were flying to PHX, then spending a few days there, then taking a separate trip to Laughlin via Vegas. I was only referring to that latter trip.

Having made that trip or a variation of it a dozen or more times, I know the drill.

It would make far more sense for your friend to meet you in Phoenix, and you could just drive straight to Laughlin Faster and cheaper.

I know, just pointing out that you were further from Laughlin than other people think
